Stretch block?

Hi,

I inserted a variable resistor symbol oriented vertically. From the top terminal to the bottom terminal, the distance measured 0.4981. I want to connect to this variable resistor from the side. I have my snap set at 0.25 and all of my rungs are spaced at even multiples of 0.25. For this reason, it would be easier for me if my variable resistor measured 0.5000 from top to bottom. I thought I would be able to do this using the 'stretch block' function. I tried to do this, but I couldn't figure it out. The online help on this function was not very useful. If anyone could tell me if what I am trying to do is possible, and if so, how to do it, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Paul

stretch block
~works on an inserted instance of a block
-pick the command from toolbar,
-then drag a window around the stuff you want to stretch (not the whole block, just the one end you want to stretch)
-click enter (ends the window selection)
-pick a base point (say the corner of what you are streching)
-pick a new point

its quite cool

(works analogously to autocad stretch command, except it operates on a block)

note that undo is a bit quirky: it doesn't undo the whole thing in one step, you have to take several shots at it.

Comment: maybe what you want to do if modify the definition of the block to get it on the grid.
remember to "purge" the old block, otherwise you just keep re-inserting the original crappy block, which is very confusing/frustrating
also, AE component insert is NOT the same as Autocad block insert.

Comment: inserting a "horizontal" part and then rotating to vertical often doesn't work too well; nicer to have separate H and V parts...

Alternate solution is to modify the source version of the resistor symbol.
Let's say the symbol name is "HRE1". Open the hre1.dwg file (browse to the
active library folder) and adjust as you see fit. Save and exit. Now, when
you insert the symbol into a fresh drawing, it will reflect the changes you
made to the actual symbol itself. If you want to update existing dwgs with
this new version of the symbol, use the Block Swap utility and pick the
"Option B" update block function.

Nate's idea is great! I have done that with symbols in the past. Just be sure to save a backup of any symbols you modify, so you will have them in case you ever have to reinstall ACADE or when you upgrade in the future.
