I'm afraid you can't change these sort fields in the reports. You probably
could sort the data using a User Post custom function. If you have a
specific report and can tell me the sort you are interested in I might be
able to get you started on a User-Post if you haven't done much lisp
programming.

Hi there,

I just found how to do this. It may be what you are looking for:

With a project open,
select Projects
select Reports
select Report Format Files Setup

In the Schematic Report window select the type of report you want to customize. I will use Component for this example.

select Components
click on Open Format File button
select the default file shown
click on OK button

click on the Change Report Fields button

the Components Data Fields to Report dialog box will let you arrange the data you want to appear in the report and the order in which to display the fields.

When you have the arrangement you want click OK button

This step is VERY IMPORTANT. You do not want to over wright the default file so DO NOT click on the Save File Format button. You DO want to save your custom file with a name meaningful to you. It should look something like MY_CUSTOM_FORMAT.SET.

click on Save As Format File
name new file and save it

Now that the custom file is created, start again

With a project open,
select Projects
select Reports
select Schematic Reports
select Components

click on the Format button

you should see the file you just created, MY_CUSTOM_FORMAT.SET
select your file then click on OK button

Now when you run the report you should see the fields you defined listed in the order you selected. Once the report is created you can

click on Sort button to sort data based on cell values or
click on Change Report Format to rearrange column listing order

Hope this helps, good luck

I have another question relating to this. Could you, without a USER POST, sort a User defined attribute, as you would a regular attribute, with the Sort button?

I have already plugged in the User-define Attributes in the .wda file and can bring them up in any report.

Thanks.

It depends on the report. Some reports allow sorting on any available field
in the report. Others, like the Bill of Material, do not.

I'd like to have all fields available in the BOM report, just like in the Component report.

I tried to edit BOM sorting fields manually in BOM format file opened in Notepad, but it doesn't work.

User post is not available in Automatic reports.

Regards,

Vladimir

Hello Pat,

My name is Jay and I also am interested in sorting by something other that the four default choices. I would like to be able to sort by TAGS. I haven't done any kind of lisp programming. I also know that I can export to an excel spreadsheet, but I want to put this on a drawing. The information that I want to put on the drawing is as follows: TAGS   CATALOG  MFG  DESCRIPTION  QTY  SUB.  The report I am using is the Panel Report - Bill of Material.

Thank you for your time,

Jay
