Signal reference problem

Hi,

we have just upgraded to ACADE2006 and are experiencing an interesting
issue. This happens on more than one computer, and is quite frustrating.
I wonder if somebody else experienced something along this:

When working with Source/Destination signal arrows, ACADE does not
correctly update the references, until I rebuild the project database.
Also, the Project Wide Signal/Destination codes do not freshen correctly.

To reproduce the behavior, I can do the following:
1) find an existing source/destination pair
2) delete the destination
3) update the source, get ??? - so far so good
4) re-insert the destination, pick the original signal source
5) update source, get ???. not Good.
6) Rebuild Project database
7) update source, get correct linking.

I am pretty sure that ACADE2005 did not work like this.

Anybody came across this? Is this by design? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom Tichy

Tom,

There is a know issue that might cause behavior like this. The issue deals
with the option 'Create backup copy with each save' toggled off. With this
toggled off, the scratch database was not getting fully rebuilt. This issue
has been corrected in Service Pack 1 that just recently released for Acade
2006.

If you have not already downloaded and installed this service pack, I would
recommend trying that. You can get this from:

http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/index?siteID=123112&id=2334435&linkID=4199154

After you install SP1, go to your 'User' folder and delete the scratch
database for the project that was causing you issues. This file should have
the same name as your project file with a .MDB extension.

Hi Steve,

even though I don't remember toggling the option 'create backup.....',
your fix seemed to work!

Thanks a lot!

Hello, I am getting a similar problem with Autocad Electrical 2007 and 2008.
We are changing cabling connections in our project which has some 500 drawings and have a Source and Destination arrow on separate drawings. These are linked one-to-one.
When we go to the Destination (From) arrow and change it to a new signal within the project. It updates the Reference correctly on this drawing.
We then save the drawing and go to the drawing with the old Destination (From) arrow. We change this to its new reference and save the drawing.
We then go to the drawing with the new Source (To) arrow and do retag/update, we then get the old and the new references.
When we do a Full rebuild of the project database, the signal reference is corrected with a Retag/Update.
We just found that shutting down Autocad and restarting also gave us a successfual retag/update.
This happens on both of our workstations. We are saving the drawings in 2004 format as this is a Contract requirement.

regards,
Alan
