SET Files Suggestion

I don't know if this is possible, or if there are reasons why this hasn't been done. I'd like the SET files to save the Put on Drawing settings for all reports. Overall, I am very pleased with the Automatic Reposrt Generator in ACE2007, so this is not a "biggie". But it would be nice. Thanks.

Martin, if you use the Format File Wizard and go into the Put on Drawing
from there it should save all the options in the .set file. Are there
ceertain settings missing or did you mean at some other point it should save
them?

DUH! Of course, you are correct. And that works great for the BOM, but the Drawing List is ont one of the choices in the Wizard, and when running this report, the Put on Drawing settings are not saved. Maybe I've missed something again. Thanks.

Martin, you didn't miss anything for the Drawing List Report. The only place
you can save the Put on Drawing settings is the Format File wizard. However,
the Drawing List report is not in the wizard. Originally, the expanded .set
file options (including Put on Drawing settings) were meant for use with the
Automatic reports. The Drawing List report wasn't included in the Automatic
Reports because it still required scripting through the drawings to gather
the customer specific information. Therefore it was not included in the
Format File Wizard. We've since expanded the use of the additional .set file
options for regular reporting but not all reports made it into the Wizard
I'm afraid.

I haven't specifically tried this but you might try creating a .set file for
another report and set up all your Put on Drawing options. Create the start
for the Drawing List .set file by using the OK+Save As option under the
Change Report Format. Then using Notepad or some editor open up both .set
files and copy the Put on Drawing lines from the one file to the Drawing
List .set file. The options for this would be the lines that start with the
word TABLE.

Table Options =
Table Settings =
Table Fix Options =
Table Layout =
Table Insertion = 1 (won't be used)

You still wouldn't be able to use the Automatic reports for Drawing List
report but it might use these as your default table settings when you run
the report manually.

Pat, I thought of that and have done some experimenting, but so far only partial luck. It's a matter of knowing what to change in the Table= lines, and apparently that is determined by trial and error. Will keep working with it Thanks.

Martin, I was thinking you would just use the Format File Wizard (going in
using some other report) to get the Table settings you wanted. I think these
particular lines in the .set file are the same format regardless of report.
Then you could just copy those lines directly from one .set file to another.

Pat, nothing is working. When I use the wizard from another report (as in a Terminal Report), the heading is different (Reprot = ) and when I change that to be Drawing List, the Put on Drawing dialog box disappears instantly. It looks like the Drawing list report ignors the Table = statements in the SET file.

Martin,

What I suggested was to create 2 .set files and take the table options from
one and put in the other.

First, you are right you need one specific to Drawing List Report. The only
way to get that is to run the report, then from the Report Generator dialog
pick Change Report Format and make any necessary changes (or none) and pick
the OK+Save As button. Now you have a .set file for Drawing List report but
it doesn't have any Table Settings.

Now go into the Format File Wizard and pick any report. Go into the Put on
Drawing and set up the table options you will want for the Drawing List
Report. Save this in some other .set file name.

Now, using Notepad, open the 2nd .set file that has the Table= lines and
copy them from this file and put them at the end of the Drawing List .set
file created in step 1. Do not overwrite any of the lines that were already
in the Drawing List .set file. They are unique to that report.

Hopefully, this makes sense.

No luck, Pat. I created two seperate files, then added the table settings to the DWGLST.SET file. The Put on Drawing report ignors the Table = settings.

Martin, I finally got around to trying this and it works fine for me in
AcadE 2007. I've attached my .set file that I made as described in my
earlier post. When I run the Drawing List Report and pick Put on Drawing it
is using my table options from the .set file.

One main reason this report isn't in the Format File Wizard and Automatic
reports is due to the flexibility of the fields. There are some standard
fields but if the title block feature is set up for the drawings these will
be added as fields in the report at the time the report is run. The Foramt
File Wizard has to set up a .set file without knowing what is on the
drawings.

Anyway, I've attached my cobbled together .set file. Give it a try and see
if it uses these options instead of some defaults.

Were you using AcadE 2007? Prior to AcadE 2007, these table settings were
only used by Automatic Reports, not when running the single report manually.

Can you post your .set file? Did you try the one I posted? Does your
project/drawing already have an existing table that would match the report
you are running? If that is the case this would override the settings from
the .set file.

Pat, I tried the one you posted just as it is with no luck. So here is mine. The text is supposted to 0.15", line spacing 0.32", table location 14.5, 25. The table should be on Layer 0 and white, with text color yellow. This set file is for 1 cloumn of drawing list.

Pat, could the entire drawing list report utility be moved from the project manager to the automatic report generator and automatic report setup? If so, all of the AcadE reports would be set up and generated from the same place. Martin

Several weeks ago I was able to run the Drawing List report and have it collect alternate attribute information in place of the default info. This allowed me to target my clients specific title block attributes and create a very nice drawing index that I was able to Put onto the index page.

Since then we have significantly shifted drawing sheets around. Now, when I run the drawing list report I cannot change the fields at all and can only extract the default attributes. This worked once, but now does not and I cannot figure out what I did differently the first time.

So, what is the correct procedure for changing the default attributes to new or existing but different attributes?
