Report Underlining

We have a few components with text that we would like underlined. Well, I know how to do this by using %%U.

However, when we generate a report the characters are not underlined; but rather %%U is displayed. Also, I cannot even underline the text by using the cell formatting tools.

Is there a way to carry over the %%U to still underline, no matter where the attribute is displayed, either with the component or in a report?
