Project's scratch database

Hi all,

In ACE2006, where can I set up to maintain my project database file in the
same directory as the project (.wdp) file as:

ACE2005 -->Miscellaneous project settings-->Tagging and
Miscellaneous-->"Project's scratch database file sharable".

Thanks,

Paulo Pirola

Paulo,

This capability has been removed in ACE2006. By default,
it goes to your C:\doacuments and settings\ . . .support\user folder.

Paulo,

Martin is correct in that we eliminated the need to share the project
database in AutoCAD Electrical 2006. We have introduced the new Project
Database Service which keeps all shared drawing files continuously up to
date; eliminating the need to share the project database.

You should notice a new ICON in your lower services tray of AutoCAD
Electrical which is telling you that the Project Database Service is
currently running. This service keeps track of all drawing files inside of
your project and monitors them for changes. All changes that are made
during your session of AutoCAD Electrical are updating the project database
instantaneously.

In this environment the drawing files are the database and the latest
information is kept up to date in your project.

Regards,

John Zwerlein (Autodesk)

John,

I'm getting the following message when starting up ACADE 2006. I have the catalog & symbols shared on the network with the shared network path in the Support directory (Options).

Unable to create Access database file 'C:\Documents and Settings\skilesl.ENGINEERING\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD Electrical 2006\R16.2\enu\Support\user\AEGS.mdb'

It seems like it can not create this mdb file at that location. I have admin rights on the computer. Please help!

Does this path actually exist on your local machine, 'C:\Documents and
Settings\skilesl.ENGINEERING\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD Electrical
2006\R16.2\enu\Support\user\' ? If so, do you you have write permission?

Well, unless someone who's had experience with this issue wants to jump in
and help us... let's try a small experiment. Let's instruct AcadE 2006 to
look at a different folder for where it will store these user scratch
database files and such. We can see if we get a similar error message.

1. Exit AutoCAD 2006
2. Create a new folder on your local machine's C: drive. Let's say
"c:/test/user/"
3. Copy file lastproj.fil from your 'C:\Documents and
Settings\skilesl.ENGINEERING\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD Electrical
2006\R16.2\enu\Support\user\' folder into this new folder. If this file does
not exist, or if this whole folder is empty, then this is a clue. Let me
know.
4. Otherwise, continue on. Open file 'C:\Documents and
Settings\skilesl.ENGINEERING\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD Electrical
2006\R16.2\enu\Support\wd.env' with an ASCII text editor.
5. Find this part of the file:

****************************************************************************
********
* User temp file folder, CANNOT shared with other users
****************************************************************************
********
WD_USER,%DS_DIR%/user/,AutoCAD Electrical user temp file folder

Change it as follows (add (*) char to the existing line, add new line below
it as shown here:

****************************************************************************
********
* User temp file folder, CANNOT shared with other users
****************************************************************************
********
*WD_USER,%DS_DIR%/user/,AutoCAD Electrical user temp file folder
WD_USER,c:/test/user/,user folder

6. Save the file and exit.
7. Restart AcadE 2006. See if it comes up okay. If not, then it should now
say that it cannot create 'C:\test\user\AEGS.mdb'

Let me know what you find... there's got to be a logical explanation!

Nate.

I followed your steps and the file was in the directory and the directory was not empty. The same error message came up except saying it can not create it in the new directory.

Is this the first time you've fired up AcadE or did these problems appear
after moving some stuff around to other folders/drives? Can you email me
your phone number (to nate.holt@autodesk.com) and maybe we can speed this Q
and A up a bit?

I recall running into a problem like this during beta testing my work arround was to use an existing project created in 2006 and renaming its mdb file to the other projects mdb file. then it atleast opened.

Larry,

Do you have the latest MDAC installed on your PC?
http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/mdac/downloads/default.aspx
Note that the Jet service packs are a separate install and are located at
the bottom of the abovementioned web-page. You need both MDAC and Jet
installed on your PC.

Does this problem present itself with ALL projects, or just this AEGS
project? If you create a new project do you get this error?

How many projects do you have open in the Project Manager tree-view?

Do you get any other information in the balloon notification error?

Lee,

I have the latest MDAC (MDAC 2.8 SP1 on Windows XP SP2) and Jet 4.0.2927.2. All PC's are updated with Win Update before any installs are done.

The problem is present with all projects (existing & new).

I only had one project open when opening ACADE for the first time, but have had two to three open and the same error.

No other error messages in bolloon notification.

Larry,

Do you have Microsoft Access on your system? If so can you try creating a
blank MDB file in the appropriate folder with the same name as the project
and then starting ACE?

If you do not have Access you can use the attached empty MDB as the starting
place.

Let me know how it goes.

Larry,

Can you also verify that you have the following registry keys:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{0C733A8B-2A1C-11CE-ADE5-00AA0044773D}
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{0C733A7A-2A1C-11CE-ADE5-00AA0044773D}

I also note that you mention "All PC's" does this mean you are seeing the
same problem on more than one system?

I have Microsoft Access 2003 (Updated todate). I used your attached MDB file and copied to the appropriate folder with the same name as the project and received the same error message. I have the WDDEMO and TEST project, created one for each.

Yes I do have the registry keys

The "all PC's" refered to being current with all Microsoft XP & Office 2003 Updates.

Larry,

Is there any more error information in the Project Database Service error
dialog? If not, it seems that there is something wrong with your OleDB
settings. We can probably test that by doing the following:

1. Create a new (empty) Text file and save it "test.udl"
2. Double click on that file to get the "Data Link Properties" dialog.
3. Click on the "Provider" TAB and select "Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB
Provider"
4. Click the "Connections" TAB and browse to a *.mdb file - make sure you
leave the User name blank and that the Blank password checkbox is
checked.
5. Click Test Connection.

If that works, then please start ACE again and when you get the Project
Database Service balloon notification, click on the hyperlink or the icon
and copy and paste everything in the dialog and send it to me at
lee.hollingworth@autodesk.com. I will then work with you via email to try
and trace into this problem and see if we can isolate it. Unfortunately I
work out the Singapore office and it is now 12:55AM and this is probably my
last post for today. But if you can email me as much information as
possible, I will start working with that tomorrow.

Larry,

Further to my other post, if the Test Connection works, please click OK and
then send me the udl file along with your error message. It will contain
plain text information like:
[oledb]
; Everything after this line is an OLE DB initstring
Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:\tmp\ng\new.mdb;Persist
Security Info=False
