Hi I mysteriously had this problem last week when I started acade. In the directory named in your post you should find the project databases. In my situation they had been renamed with a 'back' or 'old' somewhere in the database title. I renamed them again to what they should be (project_title.mdb) and started acade again. I haven't had the problem since. But if you find the cause I would be interested to know.

I created a blank database with the propper project name yet that still does'nt work. Also when trying to add/delete drawings the attached dialog pops up.

Probably You have tried this already, but You may delete this so called scratch mdb's. AE will (normally) rebuild them when you start it again.
Also there are some user posts in this forum who suffered from the same problem. Try a search for "scratch mdb"

No, that did'nt help either Can't seem to find the data links or sources files needed and don't know how to set this up.

Are these data links/sources still setup on your system?

1) From the Start menu (Windows), choose Settings >> Control Panel >> administrative tools.
2) Double-click the ODBC icon.

On the "User DSN" tab the link to access should exist.
If not try adding it.

It sounds looks there is a Jet 4.0 DLL that did not get registered during
the install or got unregistered someway. Below are the steps to register
the 2 most common DLL's that cause this error. This will need to be
preformed by someone with administrator rights on the machine.

1.. Exit Acade
2.. Open a CMD window and change to the [WINDOWS_INSTALL_DIR]\System32
folder.
3.. Verify that the files msjet40.dll and msjetoledb40.dll exist.
4.. In the Command Prompt window type the following command and hit Enter:
1.. regsvr32 msjet40.dll
5.. In the Command Prompt window type the following command and hit Enter:
1.. regsvr32 msjetoledb40.dll
6.. After each command, you should get a dialog telling you that the
registration was successful.
Let me know if this solves the problem or not.

Tried that but still no luck.
I'm wondering if the problem may be with Access. I have Access 2002 XP version yet the regular Office is 2000 version. Running XP system (Media Center)

I have never tried this exact configuration, so maybe it has something to do
with it, but lets try one more thing to determine the Let 4.0 driver version
that you are using.

1) Using Windows Explore, browse to the Windows\System32 folder (might have
to turn on option to display hidden files/folders)
2) Look for the file MSJET40.dll and right-click on it and select
Properties
3) Click the Version tab, this should list the version of this file. I am
hoping it is version: 4.0.8618.0

Also, a couple questions. Do you have the latest service Pack (SP2) for
Windows XP installed? If not, this could cause it because I think there is
a security patch for these Jet drivers that is included in XP SP2.

Another thought, Acade requires some MDAC components, maybe this did not get
installed correctly or an issue arose when registering it. You might try
running the MDAC 2.7 install that is on the Acade 2006 CD. The file is
called: mdac_typ.exe and is located on the CD at: \Bin\ACADFeui\support

OK....msjet dll version is as you hoped.
XP version is at SP2
Ran the MDAC file you specified.....no change.
Steve, have you looked at the screen.rtf file attached to an earlier post above? If I look at the Tools-Options-Files-Datalinks a path is there down to the ACADE directory.
However when I try to drill down to that directory from the dialog of the RTF screenshot the directory won't appear. Not even sure what info it is actually looking for.

Yes, I looked at that screen shoot, that was where I got the idea for the
registering of those file, that is the exact dialog that you get when the
MSJETOLEDB.DLL file is not registered. I get the exact empty dialog when I
force the MSJETOLEDB.DLL file to unregister and then run Acade and try and
add or remove a file from the project. All I do then is register the dialog
as stated in my previous post and run Acade again and all is well.

As for the path in the Options dialog, that path is for standard AutoCAD
functionality and as far as I know we do nothing with that path or any files
in it. I completely removed that folder from my machine and still had no
problems.

A couple questions,

1) When you first load Acade, do you get an error dialog stating: 'Unable
to communicate with the Project Database Service'
2) Could you exit Acade and then reloaded it and use the F2 key for flip to
the text screen and see if there are any errors listed? If there are just
right-click and 'Copy history' and paste that in a post. When I do this I
get no errors even what I am able to duplicate your issue, but I am now
thinking your issue is different then what I was thinking.

Upon loading Acade I do get the "Unable to connect to Project Database Service" error. I have to click "OK" twice to clear it and autocad then contiues on.
Pressed F2 and no errors noted just normal command stuff

I am running out of things to try. We have ran into this issue before and
the registering of the MSJETOLEDB40.DLL file has always taken care of it. I
have attached an AVI movie of my system with this error and showing how I
fixed it just so you can review it and let me know if this is what you are
getting.

Also, you are running Windows XP Pro correct and not the 64bit version of
XP?

The system is XP Media Edition. I'm going to try and load it temporaly on XP HOME just to see if it works. It loses a lot of funtionality without the database service but can still manage.
Thanks for all the help!!!

I am pretty sure this has something to do with either the Jet 4.0 database
engine or MDAC, just not sure which part is causing it. There is an Acade
support article about making sure the latest Jet files are installed and
maybe running through this support document will correct the issue. Below
is the link to the support doc:

I found something else to try. This should not be ran if you have both
Acade 2006 and Acade 2007 installed on the machine, but if you only have
Acade 2006 installed, it will be fine and will not cause any problems if you
later install Acade 2007. Just as long as they are not both installed when
you run this. The step are below.

1) Exit AutoCAD Electrical

2) From Start menu select 'Run'

3) Change to the folder: 'C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Acade 2006' or
where ever you installed AutoCAD Electrical

4) Type in: 'AcePmComServer /regserver' and press Enter

Let me know if this works or not.

Steve,
Are you sure I want to do this in "RUN". I tried it and got an error message that "AcePmComServer /regserver can not be found" as if I was trying to run a program by that name. The exe does exist in that directory though.

Sorry, I left a few steps out. Below are the updated steps and I double
checked all to make sure they are correct.

1) Exit AutoCAD Electrical
2) From Start menu select 'Run'
3) Type in CMD and press OK
4) Change to the folder: 'C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Acade 2006' or where
ever you installed AutoCAD Electrical
5) Type in: 'AcePmComServer /regserver' and press Enter
