Pre-populating Drawing descriptions 1,2,3

Hello

I'm looking for a way to populate the Description drop down box's in the drawing properties window. I have several predefined description for each of the 3 fields and rather than having to retype it each project I'm looking to pre populate them.

Thanks for any help

Add your descriptions to the C:\Documents and Settings\
name>\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD Electrical
2009\R17.2\enu\Support\wd_desc.wdd file. You can also edit directly through
AcadE by clicking the Defaults button below the description fields. This is
also where you select the descriptions. The "|" symbol indicates to move
the next word to the next description box.

There is no way to get som "default descriptions" into these fields. The
drop down list will only consist of what's already written in the
description fields for the other drawings in the project.

These description values are saved in the project's .wdp file. You could
carefully edit the .wdp file (maintaining its structure) and quickly assign
description values to one or more drawings. Here is some information from
the Help on the .wdp file structure. Read the entire topic to understand the
entire structure. I have only copied the protion related to the list of
drawings and the information that can be added for each drawing. (It is a
little hard to tell since the text runs together but those are 3 equal signs
in front of the descriptions.)

Overview of the project file format (TOPIC name)

Project drawing list
All remaining entries give the relative path (relative to the location
of the project's .wdp file itself) to each drawing that is part of the
project. The drawing name is given first. Then, if special assignments or
descriptions are defined for the drawing, this information follows the
drawing name in subsequent lines. Each line is prefixed with a code. If
special "sec/sub" groupings are defined, then a drawing's "sec" is preceded
by a "=" entry and "sub" by a "==" entry. If one to three lines of
description are defined, each is preceded by a "===" entry. If a drawing is
marked "Ref only", it is preceded by a "====REF" entry.

Put the text you want on the first three lines in the default.wdp file. These will then be the first three lines displayed when you open Descriptions from the Project Manager. Use a text editor to open the .wdp file and then you can place the first three lines as follows:

*[1]First line of descriptions.
*[2]Second line of descriptions.
*[3]Third line of descriptions.

We have a default.wdp (and .wdt, .wdl, and more) that we copy into a project directory at the beginning of a new project. We rename these files to match the project number.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the input. I already have code to copy and modify the wdp file based on user input from code Ive writen. I placed the comments I wanted In the section and it ...Kinda worked. The drop downs appear to be populated by all of the comments. the dont seem to distinguish Desc. 1,2,3 and it makes for a real mess...

Also Once a new drawing was added or the properties window was opened it restructures the wdp file automatically which is problematic in of its self.

Im looking into constructing my own "Drawings Settings" window now as I had to do with the "New Project" function.

Thanks for the input...

Is there a way to generate the new drawings for a project with filename, descriptions, sheet #, drawing # and section data from an excel file ???

Or Could it be programed?

Thx,

Eric

Eric,

I have re-writen the new project section of ACE2006 to do exactly that..In the simplest form you can write a macro in excell to copy your templates into a folder and rename them to the desired convention. you can then create or modify the fiwdp file and place it in the same folder.. I did this in ACE through vba and lisp using formes and openning the excell files programaticly but it can be done externally to ace as well...
