PLC single I/O components

I'm doing a project where its not practical to have all my relay outputs line up in a neat rows.  What is the best way to do this?  so far I’ve done it two ways, one is drawing the module and then using source and destination arrows and the other is with single I/O components using the insert component tool, similar to a control relay.

Using the inset single I/O method, why can I not see my PLC listed when I try and select "Used: Project"  there are no PLCs listed in the window even though i have a few modules scattered throughout my project.

What I’m suspecting is my drawings are not linked or something.  I tried inserting a control relay on one drawing and when i insert a NO contact and look for the parent coil that is on anther drawing it also does not find it.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
