PLC Description Modification

Hello.
I'm very new to Autocad Electrical without any formal (or at all) training. I'm using AE 2006.

I'm bringing in PLC modules but don't like the placement of the descriptions, or the size or any of the text. Following the help file I attempted to change the size of the text by modifying the symbol library. I also went in manually and attempted to change the text size on each library symbol (PLCIOI1T.dwg
etc.). This changes nothing when I insert a new module. I did this in both the JIC1 and the JIC125 Libraries.

I know I can change the text size, position, justification manually after the module is inserted, but this is very time consuming and i'm sure there is a better way to go about it.

So my question is, how can i rearrange the position of the text, text size, justification etc. prior to inserting the module.

Any help at all is appreciated.

Alan

Alan,

The symbol that you list below is one of the stand-alone, single I/O point
symbols, not one that is used in creating a parametrically built-up, I/O
module. The symbols you probably want to change are in your jic1 or jic125
library under names like HP?xxxx.dwg and VP?xxx.dwg where the "?" is a "1"
for "style one", "2" for style two, and so on. There are about 32 parametric
symbols per graphical style.

thanks,
Nate.

Thanks for your reply. That helps to clear things up a lot.

One more question: Is there a way to tell which library symbols are being used to build the module? I have used the "list" command before to find the library symbol file name for other components and I can then just modify that one.

Is there a way you can get some sort of list of the different symbols that are pulled for the library to generate the module? That way I don't have to try and match up the look of the PLC module when exploded with the appropriate symbol in the JIC library?

Thanks again for the help.

OK nevermind my last question. I understand now that the filename for the symbol can be found in the .mdb file.

I have updated the blocks in both libraries, but no changes are made when I insert a new module. I'll try to figure out whats causing this.

In the meantime, if anyone wants to tell me why there are two different libraries, and whether or not I need to to change the symbols in both, I might get a better understanding of this whole thing.

Thanks again

Alan,

After the module goes in, run AutoCAD's BLOCK command to pop up the dialog.
Go to the poplist arrow to get a display of all block definitions on the
drawing. Look for those with "HP" prefix. These are the ones that were used
to build you PLC module.

This may solve your "nothing changed" problem... PURGE your drawing of these
old block references before you try to rerun the INS PLC command. Maybe
you'll see the modified block references pop in as it builds the new
instance of the module.

Nate.
