PLC Database File Editor - Module Box Dimensions quirk

I don't know if that has been brought up yet, I looked, but didn't see anything.

I was messing with the module box dimensions on a 1794-IB32 module. I entered .9 into the split top dimension to keep the PLC tag from interfering with a terminal tag. The adjustment wouldn't take. The program would keep drawing the geometry at default values which I believe is 0.5. I added some dimensions to the Top Bottom and Split Bottom dimensions and then it would take. I then deleted them, and the problem reappeared. I don't know which one is causing the problem, but I thought I'd post what I know.

Electrical Design Guy,

I have a couple of questions for you. What version of Electrical are you
running? Did you use the PLC Database File Editor to enter this value in or
did you make changes to the database directly (using Access for example)?

Thanks,
Mike

Electrical Design Guy,

I can't seem to duplicate what you are seeing. Here is what I did:

1. I installed a fresh copy of ACADE 2008.
2. I started up Electrical
3. I ran PLC Database Editor
4. I selected the 1794-IB32 module
5. I clicked the Module Specifications button
6. In the Module Specifications dialog I selected the Module Box Dimensions
button.
7. In the Module Box Dimensions dialog I entered .9 in the edit control for
Split Top.
8. I clicked OK and I got an error message saying that I needed to enter
one of the Top, Bottom, Left, or Right dimensions. See attachment.

Are these the same steps that you are doing? On a side note, I am curious,
do you want this adjustment for just this one module, or would this be
something you might want for all the modules that you use?

Regards,
Mike

I think that the only thing that is different between what happened to you, and what happened to me is that I didn't get an error message. It allowed the single value, but did nothing when I inserted the module.. Right now, I'm not willing to reinstall ACADE. I don't think my boss would appreciate it 🙂 As far as your question about using this on the other modules. I'm not sure. If it was something I wanted to do, I'd just match your default values, and enter them. It was just a minor issue, but I wanted to post it in case anyone else was having the problem.

Ok, I'm not sure why you didn't get the error message. If you are able to
reproduce it, please let me know. The reason I asked if you wanted this
adjustment for just this one module, or would this be something you might
want for all the modules, is because people often get confused with the fact
that the values in the Module Box Dimensions are dimension overrides for the
module that you are editing, and the Style Box Dimensions are the dimensions
that will apply to all modules that do not have any overrides defined. So
if this was a change you wanted to apply to all modules, you would want to
make changes to the Style Box Dimensions (reached by clicking the Style Box
Dimensions button found in the main PLC Database File Editor dialog).

Regards,
Mike

Hi Mike,

I'm not going to try to reproduce it right away, but if I wind up tweaking some modules, I'll see what I can do, and post what I find in this thread. I see now where you were going with the global -vs- specific change question. I was tweaking the module pretty heavily, and the change I made was specific.

Thanks
