Panel icon wizard

Hi,
I want to add an icon to the Insert Panel item so that I can put my enclosure and panel onto the drawing. I don't want to add an icon for a specific enclosure with a specific part number - I want the same dialog box that asks me to select the part number in the database.
Can I do this?
Thanks -
Lynne

If I understand you correctly, this may work. Create the "footprint" drawing for your enclosure with Black Box Builder (Panel mode) and WBlock it to your hard disk. Perhaps create a My Footprints folder under the C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Acade 2006\Libs\panel path to store your custom footprints. That's what I did. In Black Box Builder you will want to place down the P_TAG1, P_ITEM, MFG, CAT, INST, LOC, DESC1, etc. attributes in the footprint before you WBlock it. Next use the Iconmenu wizard in Panel mode to create the icon trigger that inserts the footprint. When you click the icon menu for panel components and place down your enclosure block (footprint), ACADE should see the attributes and prompt you accordingly. Repeat this procedure for your panel insert.

Hi,
Took me awhile to get back to this, did not work. Though it did
point out that I have been shortcutting the panel footprint process by just putting the either downloaded or home-drawn
components in the panel folder and linking them in the lookup database without involking the "black box builder".
What happened when I went through this process is that the
specific footprint I created was inserted.
I want to browse for it as I would for any other component inserted not through the schematic report, but through the icon menu.
Or I can just use regular Insert to insert footprints like panels or other hardware. I don't know if I am loosing much by doing it that way.

Hi,

While using the ICON menu wizard in the "Menu Icon Function" use the
"Command" option and under the "Command to execute when icon button
selected" text box enter:
wd_infpx "EN"
This option would invoke Panel, general family, choose catalog. Fill in all
the other required details and create your icon. After creating the icon,
when you launch the Insert footprint dialog then you can go for the catalog
lookup which would point you to the Enclosure table.
I am not sure whether this is what you were looking for.
