Panel Footprint Update

Is there a way to trigger a footprint update based on schematic changes? I know if you change components individually, the corresponding footprints will update. However, what if you insert a saved circuit with new catalog information (after manually deleting the old circuit)? Can you tell ACE to scan the new schematic and update the panel (the component tags are the same) footprints accordingly? If not can you use the import/export spreadsheet tool to quickly accomplish the same thing?

Looking for suggestions on the quickest and most efficient way to accomplish. Thanks!

You can use the Export/Import but it would be a lot of manually editing I think.

The other command you can use is the Child Location/Description Update command. It is on the Schematic tab > Edit Components panel > Cross-referencing drop-down. At some point this command was expanded (but not renamed so it isn't obvious that this might do what you want) to update MFG/CAT values to match the schematic parent. Options are on the bottom half of the dialog that comes up. The drawback to this command is that it can't be run across a project, you actually have to select the schematic components. But, in your case maybe that is OK. After you insert your circuit, run the command, select all the components in the circuit and say OK to all updating if any dialogs comes up. It should update the panel footprints with the same tags and swap out footprint symbols if necessary.

Thanks Pat. That worked beautifully and will save us many hours of manually updating footprint drawings when we sub alternative cat sources in our drawings!

Thanks again.

Glad that worked. I even forgot about that command and had to go searching!
