panel footprint symbol to schematic footprint symbol data transfer

I've created some schematic and footprint symbols utilizing RATING01-RATING12.  When I update the information on the schematic, the footprint data updates correctly.  I'd like to be able to change this information on the footprint and have the schematic symbol update but I get the error "no referenceS found".
