Panel BOM-Sorting

Is there a way to add sort capability for TAGS? All I see available is ITEM-CATALOG-MFG.

I am not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but it might help.
When you original select BOM for Panel there is a display option section, near the bottom of that is display in by tag format radio button. If you select that your results will then be able to be sorted by Tag.

Let me know if this helps.

Yes, I saw that but it gives a listing of all devices by individual TAGs. I should have been a bit clearer as I want to do this in the Purchase Order format so I can arrange like items together without having to give them an ITEM NUMBER on the panel layout.

tomw47 An option you may want to take a look at is writing a USER POST routine to modify this report for you when you save it to file or put it on the drawing. -- ---- Regards, Jared Bunch Technical Support Specialist Autodesk, Inc. -------------------------------------------------------- "tomw47" wrote in message news:21122272.1086631284696.JavaMail.jive@jiveforum1.autodesk.com... > Yes, I saw that but it gives a listing of all devices by individual TAGs. I'm trying to visualize what you want to do. The existing "purchase list" type BOM reports group like items together and sorts the tags associated with each group (ex: sorts all tags associated with AB 800E-2X10 contact blocks and sorts all tags associated with AB 700-P200A1 relays). The existing "By TAG" BOM report puts each item as its own entry in the report and then you can sort on the tag column. But it sounds like neither report format is what you're looking for. If you can send me a sample dwg or screen shot, it will help me understand what you'd really like AcadE to be able to do. thanks, Nate. Tom,

If you are just looking for a BOM to give to purchasing like I do, I just remove the tags from the report and sort on MFG then Catalog. This gives me a list totaling up everything in the format I need. Is this what you were looking for?

Thanks for your responce. Basically what I'm looking for is to be able to sort alphabetically by TAG name (device tag). When looking at a panel layout and trying to find what kind of fuse F100 is, it is convient to scan the parts list in alpha order to locate it. As it is now, I have to number by ballon in the order I wish and it's a pain when something is missed, added or deleted. Probably sounds some what anal, but that's what we are looking for.

I think I understand what you are asking for now. What you are asking for could be a problem especially when dealing with Assemblies and Subassemblies.

For example, here are 2 switches. The each are comprised of three parts two of which are comon to each switch. The Switch TAGS are SS01 and PB01. This is an excerpt from my BOM using "Display in BY TAG format" (This list is sorted BY TAG):

[pre]
PB01 1 C21ED01 BACO PUSH BUTTON - TWIST RELEASE MUSHROOM
22.5mm
RED 28mm MUSH, ROUND PLASTIC
1NC
SCREW TERMINALS
MARTEC
1 23E10 BACO 1NO CONTACT BLOCK, SCREW TERMINAL
22.5mm
1NC
SCREW TERMINALS
MARTEC
1 233E BACO CONTACT BLOCK ASSEMBLY MOUNTING CLIP
22.5mm
MARTEC

SS01 1 C21KT03 BACO SELECTOR SW - 2 POS MAINT, NEMA 4/4X/13
22.5mm
BLACK LEVER
MARTEC
1 23E10 BACO 1NO CONTACT BLOCK, SCREW TERMINAL
22.5mm
1NO
SCREW TERMINALS
MARTEC
1 233E BACO CONTACT BLOCK ASSEMBLY MOUNTING CLIP
22.5mm
MARTEC
[/pre]
These two items are seperated by about 15 other items. I can readily see what components I will need for each assembly but I cannot tell how many of each component I will need. To do that, I would have to generate another BOM using "Display in Tallied Purchase List format." That way, I now only purchase the items I need.

It seems to me that the "Display in BY TAG Format" is what you want. Am I understanding your problem correctly? It would be very helpful (as Nate suggested) if you could supply us with an example of what format you are trying to accomplish.

The format you exampled would be fine for a parts list asociated with a panel layout for our purposes as the panel builder would have a list of specific parts to do a specific assembly or when placing a part composed of sub parts.
I have attached a example of my BOM
Thanks again.

Okay.

I think I have it.

You may not have noticed but in the "Display in Tallied Purchase list format" the TAG symbols are automatically sorted in alpha order. Now if you want this list to display the TAG with the CATALOG listed seperately for each iteration of the TAG name, that is something that I do not think the software is capable of. I am still unsure of what you are trying to accomplish.

The way that the different lists are displayed is a function of how Databases operate. You are only allow one primary key and then all subsequent keys are secondary.

Therefore, if you want the TAG key to be the primary, then the CATALOG key would have to be secondary.

The way that the "Tallied Purchase list" is set up, the TAG is always a secondary sorted field.

For example, let's assume 4 parts that correspond to this list:

[pre]
TAG CATALOG
SS01 A
SS01 B
PB01 A
PB01 B
[/pre]

Now we can group them by TAG/CATALOG...

[pre]
PB01 A
B
SS01 A
B
[/pre]

or by CATALOG/TAG..

[pre]
PB01 A
SS01 A
PB01 B
PB01 B
[/pre]

I do not know of any other way to do this. I guess this is why I am having trouble grasping what you are trying to do.

I really do want to help you. Maybe a phone call would help. If you want to, you may Email me with your Phone number and we can further discuss this. bobh@weighrightasc.com
