loading plc parameter database

AutoCAD electrical 2005 loads the full modules with no problem, but when I selected parameter units, it gives me an error saying: unable to load plc database ad gives the path to the database. I have checked and the path is correct, the database exists, the file is not marked as private or anything as such. I have tried disabling antivirus and firewalls in case these might be the problem. It has been reinstalled and that didn't help. Please advise to what might be stopping the AutoCAD from loading this database.

Let's try something... Exit AcadE and put a copy of your ace_plc.mdb
database file up into your "user" folder ("c:\documents and
settings\....\support\user\"). Restart. Let's see if it sees this copy. Let
me know what you find.
thanks,
Nate.

I tried that, it comes up with the message that it can not load that file either. (the message shows file path, so I know it recognizes the change)

Can you zip and send me a copy of your file? Maybe there's some issue with
it... You can send privately to nate.holt@autodesk.com.

Just for experimental purposes, I loaded the AutoCAD onto another computer to see if it works there. The files load with no problem what so ever. Unfortunately, I need it on my laptop, not my home computer. So where to from here? I also tried using the database files from the laptop on the desk top they worked. I tried using the desktop's files on the laptop, they did not work. After removing the AutoCAD from my desktop, I'm back to where I was....

So, the problem is isolated to one of your two machines. Is this PLC insert
the only AcadE feature that does not seem to function on your laptop? For
example, if you do a project-wide BOM report, does it give you good data? If
you run a report, display, select SAVE TO FILE, and then select an Access
mdb format file to write the report out to, does it work okay?

I ran a report and saved it as an access mdb format. I then opened access and ran the file, all the info was there. Now you see what's troubling me...strange stuff.....

The folks who are experienced with this kind of thing should be back in the
office after the Memorial Day weekend. You have exhausted my knowledge base
in this area!

Thanks for all your help, Nate. Hopefully they'll have a simple solution that we both overlooked. Please forward the situation to them.

Thomc,

I have attached a zip file that contains a UDL file with the basic settings
that we use to connect to the PLC database. Please download the attachment,
unzip it and and double click on the "Test ACE_PLC.udl" file to bring up the
Data Link Properties dialog. Once the dialog is up, do the following:

1. Make sure that the Connection tab is active.
2. In the "Select or enter a database name:" type in or browse to your
ace_plc.mdb file. Do not change any of the other settings.
3. Now click on the Test Connection button, to see if it connects properly,
and report back the results of the test. You can post the results or if you
prefer, you can send them to me personally at mike.spitzer@autodesk.com and
we can try to work through this using direct email.

I discussed this issue in an email thread with Thomc and here is a summary
of what we found out. First, when he attempted to test the connection using
the UDL file that was provided in an earlier post, he received an error that
the provider could not be found. He checked the Provider tab in the Data
Link Properties dialog and sure enough the "Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB
Provider" was missing. We determined that he had the correct files
installed, just that one or more of them had not been registered. I had him
register msjetoledb40.dll and msjet40.dll. Once those DLLs were regestered
he was able to load the PLC database without any problems.

I have exactly the same issue with AutoCAD2007 Electrical:
When I press [PLC insert] and an error message appears saying - Unable to load PLC database...
I ran the UDL file (Test ACE_PLC.udl) and the result was: Test connection succeeded... but still am unable to insert PLC. What other options are there...

Can you post for me a screen shot of the error you are getting or if you
prefer, send it to me directly at mike.spitzer@autodesk.com?

Thanks,
Mike
