External Catalog Lookup Ignoring Modification

I am using the external catalog to enter muli-bom items. Say I have a few parts in the multi-bom. Later I change one of the parts on the muli-bom and return the information, AcadE ignores the change sometimes. It seems that once it ignores the change it will continue to ignore it until I delete the part and return the data, then go back to the catalog and add the part I want. Most of the time it works fine. Any help would be appreciated.

Ted, what version of AcadE are you using? Also, what command are you using
to change the multi-bom, the edit component? Is it a panel footprint
component or scheamtic? Can you be more specific on what you mean by ignore
the change? Does it not save it to the component? Does it not populate it to
related components?

Pat, we are still using AcadE 2005. I do not have time now to upgrade everyone to 2006, soon hopefully. I have only seen this with the schematics, but I have not used it much in the panel yet. I am using the edit component command and pressing the Lookup button. This calling our external database program and returning the information through the wd_xcat.lsp. I have to press the ok button after the data is returned. When I edit the component again and use the Catalog Check button, it show that the old part is still there. It is not saving the change.

A side note, when I return the parts from the external database program the Catalog Check button shows the old information and the Multiple Catalog freezes the program.

Thanks

Ted, this will take some time to research and see what is happening. I will
get back to you when I have any information on this.

Ted, one more question - when you edit a component, pick Lookup and the
information is returned from the external lookup, does the value change on
the Insert/Edit dialog in the edit boxes for the Manufacturer and catalog? I
am trying to narrow this down as I am not able to reproduce this at my end.

Pat, when it happens it is only with the sub-components of the multiple bom. I have never seen it with the main part. Unfortunately the displays from the Multiple Catalog or Catalog Check buttons do not update with the changes until after pressing the Ok button and then editing the part again. So I do not know if those fields are updating.

I think I just stumbled upon something. It seems to do it when there is more than three or four components in the list. Another funny thing I just thought of too is I noticed that the order of the parts coming from AcadE is different when it is not working correctly. Part A will be in the first sub component slot and Part B in the second sub-component slot. The next time I press the Lookup button Part B will be in the first sub-component slot and Part A will be in the second sub-component slot.

Ted, I am passing this to Nate Holt since he has more expertise in this
area.

Ted,
I think that we've reproduced the problem or at least part of the problem.
There's no work-around for the current release other than not immediately
picking the "Multi Catalog" button after your external parts number lookup
VB program returns the "multiple catalog" information. It appears that this
multiple catalog info, if passed back, is immediately applied to the
component being edited... but the opened insert/edit dialog is not aware of
the change and freezes if the multiple catalog subdialog is invoked (but if
the dialog is closed and then reopened, all seems well).
Nate.
