error: malformed string on input

My installation of ACE 2006 SP1 is not behaving properly. Adskscsrv shutdown during ABECAD selections. I shutdown ACE and restarted but I'm now seeing error upon startup. I restarted the computer - same result. I don't know how one affected the other but something happened.
Below is a Command Line History. The error happens at the end. What is happening after the Customization groups are loaded?

Command: menu

Customization file loaded successfully. Customization Group: ACAD
Customization file loaded successfully. Customization Group: ELECTRICAL

Any ideas about what is wrong and how to correct?

Furthermore,

I noticed that when I checked for the SP version I received the same error after the ABOUT command.

I figured out a solution. Don't bother replying to post. A second user profile on hte computer worked. So I copied the second Windows Docement and Settings user profile containing ACE stuff to my broken profile. It worked.
