Circuit Builder Help

Hello,
Is anybody using the circuit builder in ACE2009?
It seems very interesting to me since most schematics I do are similar, but I cant seem to find much information on how to create or modify the circuits. Can anybody offer input on this?

Thanks
Chad

This is how I got started using the "ace_cb_insert" API call:

http://mfgcommunity.autodesk.com/blogs/blog/view/7/Circ_builder_API_correction/

Have a look in 'API Help' located in "Electrical Help Topics" off of the help menu.

Other than that I've been taking apart the spreadsheet located in c:\documents and settings\all users\documents\autodesk\acade 2009\support\ace_circuit_builder.xls

The template files are located in c:\documents and settings\all users\documents\autodesk\acade 2009\libs\jic125\ace_cb1_FVNR_H.dwg

I suggest backing up all the original files that you modify.

Trial and Error has worked for me so far but it has been a bumpy road 🙂

Good Luck.

PJF.

Also, look at the topics in the Advanced
Productivity section -> Customize Circuit Builder. Depending on what you are
trying to do there might be a topic that covers the step by step procedures.
They also will help you better understand how this feature works and how it can
be customized.

I'm just learning about Circuit Builder: I have the Autodesk Courseware training books, Essentials JIC Volumes 1 & 2, and have just worked through the Circuit Builder lesson. It shows how to insert and modify their examples, but stops before it gets into anything about customization. I need in-depth information about that, so I'm looking for more. I will take a long look at the Advanced Productivity section mentioned below. Any other suggestions for training? It looks like a very versatile tool.

Hello,
That is the same thing I am running into.
There seems to be nobody or no place that has any information on how to customize the circuit builder. I think I could use the circuit builder for every drawing, if I could find out how to customize it for my needs. According to my VAR there isnt even anybody at autodesk that can (or is willing) to help.

Make sure to look through all the various topics in
the Advanced Productivity section. The first place to start is understanding the
spreadsheet and how it corresponds to the options presented on the initial
Circuit Selection dialog. There are a number of Procedure topics under the
Circuit Builder - How to section. These topics can help you understand how the
spreadsheet and the circuit builder template drawings work together to provide
the dialog options within a circuit type.

If you can provide specifics on what you are trying
to do I can provide you with some assistance or at least answer whether Circuit
Builder is the tool to use for what you want to accomplish.
