Autocad Electrical Microsoft Access Databse

Hello, I am trying to build my own parts database by either importing or linking the data from Excel. I have tried both ways by exporting the default database in excel, adding the data and the reimporting back into microsoft access or linking the excel file. Both ways failed, the "USER2 field needs to be a CHARACTER field" error came up when linking the excel file and program not working popup error came up when importing the Excel file. I was able to make the catalog work only by the tedious task of copy and paste into the default catalog and erasing the information I did not want. There has to be a workaround for this. I am not going to copy and paste hundreds if not thousands of parts into a database a few at a time.
