Hello
I am puting together our companys manfacuture database with the footprint. I am finding manfacturing data incomplete and incorrect. We use the Allen Bradley Compact 1769, the datbase description incorrectly identifies the equpment as micrologix not compactlogix and the footprints appear to be about 0.1" smaller than the drawing provide by Allen Bradley. The products included in ACADE are not commonly used in the industries for which I am familiar.
There is a lot of work in seting up this information, is seems a wast that ever ACAD user has to develop their own libraries. Why provide incorrect libraries?
Why does it take so long to correct the errors?
Is their a website that distributes community develop footprints for industrial control panels? I have found plenty sites for mechanical, architechual, and other but not for industrial control panel. I need foot prints for Prosoft modules, Allen bradley 1769 compactlogix PLC, and emerson ROC RTU's.
Thank you,
Aaron
Well you hit upon "this is the Autodesk way of doing things"
From discussions with Autodesk representatives they want the component manufactures to completely supply all the details to Autodesk to include into their product without any cost benefit to the component manufacturers
So they cobble quite a bit from different sources and proudly tell everybody that they have loads of component data supplied with the product
That’s why the data is often patchy /out of date and my favourite of totally no relevance to us Europeans as we can’t by it
Different companies do it different ways
What Eplan has done it got the manufacturers on board and they have a live server which you can pull down component data and insert directly into your project which is updated almost daily what do the manufactures get?
Well they get the sales leads for their components feed back to them by Eplan which makes them happy
But you have to be happy because they will release more data in the next version
(They won’t get round to changing things unless it hits the embarrassment factor level)
And that is the key here component data is well down the list of things to do and correct
Just for fun google “Autocad electrical Parts Data” or a variant on that and see how many parts manufactures have Acade configured parts data on their manufactures website
Now do the same for “Eplan Macros” and see how many hits you get it’s pretty obvious from the parts manufactures who they prefer
Acade all new innovations have existed for a least ten years in the market leaders products you want to see what ACADE will look like in ten years’ time just go to the leaders and think how can Autodesk make a mess of that that great feature
