AutoCAD 2015 SP1 - can't find catalog

I downloaded SP1 and now can no longer access the catalog. It worked fine before SP1. Any ideas? I restored and tried the download again with the same results.

It is unbelieveable that Autodesk has no email or phone support. They certainly don't mind collecting big money for their software. I bought directly from Autodesk after a trial. I should have gone to a reseller, at least I would have someone to talk to.

There is no service pack available yet for version 2015. But the path to the Catalog database must appear in the support file search path. It is normally in a subfolder under AeData.

Thanks for the reply. According to the screen shot below there is a SP1 release that shows it was available on 6/18. I downloaded it within the application. I didn't change the path that worked before the SP. I don't have the default installation and am using a network location. Everything works fine without the SP. That is the only thing that changed. I am using a mapped drive to direct ACAD to look on our network drive for the catalog.

If you copy the AeData folder to a network drive and add this path to the top of the support file search path, AutoCAD Electrical will find all it needs with regard to project data, PLC, and part numbers.  Note: You must rename the local AeData so the software no longer finds it.  Something like AeData_Local.

You can assign an alternate catalog database path in the WD.env file, but if you keep the folder structure intact and simply move the AeData folder to the network, you need only add this new path to the top of the support filecsearch path.  I have networked the software this way for many years for every company I go to who wants me to help them implement the software.

I have done that. It is at the top of the list, but the problem is it dosen't work as advertised after installation of the SP.

Is the database you are trying to access an older one from a previous release? If so, it has to be migrated forward to be compatible with 2015. Also, if your WD.env file is from a previous release, the paths in it will be outdated. You have to use migration utility to convert/transfer old data to work with the new version.

Thanks again for your reply. I used the database from the new 2015. It was not from a previous version. The olny thing I did was install the SP. Everything was working fine before the SP. Do I have to use the migration utility after a SP update? The env file is still pointing to the correct location but I continue to get the error posted in my first post. It has been working correctly for the last two weeks until I installed the SP. It is ridiculous there is no way to report this bug to Autodesk. Had I not made a backup of the computer before the SP installation, I would now have an unusable CAD program.

No, you shouldn't have to run migration again. I beta tested SP1 and had no issue like that. Someone from Autodesk will need to look into this. I have notified the developers.

Hello,

Can you give more information for this issue? As we can't reproduce the issue in our side.

1. What is your OS? Win7 64?
2. Can you help to uninstal the SP1, and see if the issue is still there? We want to double confirm that this is a issue from SP1 or it is a issue with your config for RTM.
3. How you install the ACE2015? Is it a standalone install or a deployment? You mentioned you put the database in the network, and make the ACE point to the mapped driver, how you did that? Is it the following workflow?
a. Standlone install the ACE2015 with default install, that means the Catalog will be install to Local
b. After install, you move the Catalog databases to the network, and do the Map driver
c. But your AEDATA folder with WD.env file is still in Local
d. change the Catalog database path in the wd.env file to point to the Map driver

4. For you projects, do you have a project special database in the project folder? or all the projects are using the default_cat.mdb?

Thanks,
Robin Shou

---Win7 64
2. Can you help to uninstal the SP1, and see if the issue is still there? We want to double confirm that this is a issue from SP1 or it is a issue with your config for RTM.

---When I restored my machine to the before condition everything worked fine. I installed the SP and changed nothing else except rebooting the computer, the catalog missing dialog box would come up when I tried to access the catalog. I could see the catalog and access it using MS Access. I tried the SP install once again with the working machine thinking maybe something happened during the install. Same result. Going back to the before SP, everything is again OK.

3. How you install the ACE2015? Is it a standalone install or a deployment?

---standalone install

You mentioned you put the database in the network, and make the ACE point to the mapped driver, how you did that?

---I changed the env file as shown below: (Y: is mapped to the AeData folder on the network)

************************************************************************************

* Catalog Parts Database Path

************************************************************************************

*CTI modifcation_________________________________________________________________________

*WD_CAT,C:\Users\CTI User\Documents\Acade 2015\AeData\Catalogs\,AE catalog file path

WD_CAT,Y:\Catalogs\,AE catalog file path

*CTI modifcation_________________________________________________________________________

Is it the following workflow?
a. Standlone install the ACE2015 with default install, that means the Catalog will be install to Local

---yes I installed it to the local machine and got everything running locally before I moved it to the network
b. After install, you move the Catalog databases to the network, and do the Map driver

---yes I moved it after everything was working locally and it worked on the network without problems
c. But your AEDATA folder with WD.env file is still in Local

---yes I left the env file on the local machine and renamed the modifed network env file to WD_network.env
d. change the Catalog database path in the wd.env file to point to the Map driver

---yes as shown above

4. For you projects, do you have a project special database in the project folder? or all the projects are using the default_cat.mdb?

---I am only using the default_cat.mdb

Hello Stan New,

We still have 2 questions below for your steps.

1. After you change the wd.env file, you rename it to WD_network.env, so in your projects, have you change the settings for the projects to use the new WD_network.env? if you don't change the settings for the projects, then it will always use the wd.env file by default.

2. After you reboot the machine, do you have the access to the mapped folder? Can you try to access the mapped folder use the windows explorer and make sure you have the access right, then launch the ACE?

Thanks,
Robin Shou

Hello Stan New,

Thanks for all the information provided, we have found the problem. It is related to the wd_network.env file.

Here is the workaround for this issue, please let me know if it works.
1. Close the ACE2015 SP1
2. Rename the wd.env file to wd.bak file to make a backup for the original wd.env file
3. Rename the wd_network.env file back to wd.env file, keep the changes in the file, point the Catalog database to the mapped network.
4. Now launch the ACE again
5. Change the project settings to use the wd.env file

So for now, we know that after patch the SP1, the application don't work properly with the wd.env which change the name. So please directly make the path change the the wd.env itself, but not rename it. To use a renamed wd.env is not a common and recommonded practice. In order to use the Catalog Database in the network after default standlone install, you can copy the whole AEDATA folder to the network, and rename the local AEDATA to AEDATA_Local, then load the wd.env file and add the network path to the search pach in the Options dialog after launch ACE, which the way Doug mentioned in this thread.

And also we recommend you to patch the SP1, as we fixed some crash issues in the SP1, it will make the ACE2015 more stable.

For this issue itself, we are still researching it and will provide a fix in the future if needed.

Thanks,
Robin Shou

If you simply move the AeData folder to the network after installation, and add this new path to the top of the support file search path, you will not have these issues, and no editing or renaming of the WD.env file will be necessary.  I have networked the software this way for customers around the world.  It is simple and trouble free.  I cover this on my web site at www.ecadconsultant.com.

Seems like AcadE 2015 problems with an env-file located elsewhere than the standard location.

If I use a wd.env (default name) placed elsewhere, the catalog browser uses the default_cat.mdb placed locally, even though the WD_CAT is set to point elsewhere.

All settings inside AcadE says that it uses the networked default_cat.mdb, but someone forgot to tell the catalog browser to read this setting, because it shows the wrong content.

If I copy the networked WD.ENV to my documents/AcadE 2015/AeData everything works fine.

Hope you get to fix this.

I just tested on another computer now.

The WD.ENV is placed in another than the standard location.

Everything works fine.

Then I update AcadE 2015 with SP1.

Everything look fine in "Setting...", but Catalog Browser uses the default_cat.mdb from the standard location (My documents/acade 2015 etc.)

I was able to install SP1 with the standard wd.env file. The program doesn't like to use any name other than the standard: wd.env. I was trying to use wd_local.env and wd_network.env depending if I was working from the office or out of the office. I will just have to make the changes inside that file when I want to redirect where the program looks for the catalog and a few other items that I need to change when working from our network or my local machine when I am on the road.  Thanks to everyone who helped out, especially to Doug who helped elevate this case to get Autodesk involved.

Hello rhesusminus,

I am checking the issue you mentioned, to put the wd.env into the other folders, then ACE2015 SP1 will not work properly, I want to know how to do it?

  1. Do you have the default AeData folder in local driver? With all the data in the folder.
  2. How you put the wd.env file into other folders? Just make a copy/paste?
  3. How you change the wd.env file settings for the projects? I have tried, I can’t choose a wd.env file outside of the default AeData folder.

If possible, can you give me some screen shot for your folder structure and project settings?

Thanks,
Robin Shou

I am a student who has installed autocad licensed 2015 students. I have installed all the brand possible (SCHNEIDER, WAGO, SIEMENS, ecc) in the catalog but then everytime I call the catalog I see only the brands AB, ABB, TELEMECANIQUE. WHY?
