That's because Drawing Audit will try to correct some of the errors in the
drawings for example it will cleans up wires pointing to nonexistent wire
numbers. Please see help file for a complete list of errors the Drawing
Audit is trying to fix. When doing project-wide Drawing Audit, each selected
drawing is checked for errors and errors are corrected when possible and the
drawing is saved. That's why you will see a warning dialog telling you the
to free up unavailable drawing(s).

In ACE2007 why can an Electrical Audit be done on a Read-only Project, but a
Drawing Audit cannot?
Thanks.
