2007 setup

2007 just arrived so I have installed it (before the first service pack even!). Bit rash for me!

First thing:-

How do I turn off the fancy effects -
The flashing of wires and components as I move the mouse over them?

The tooltip when I start to select a window?

And, most important, the animated zooming when I "zoom window" (makes me sea sick)?

What new useful things should I look out for? I notice that there are some interesting new commands to investigate.

Will I still be able to open my ACE 2005 projects? What happens when I save them in 2007?

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

I think that you can disable the animated zoom window by forcing system
variable VTENABLE to 0.

Try deselecting the "DYN" button along the bottom of your AutoCAD screen to
turn off the dynamic tooltips and prompts.

I'm not sure how to turn off the auto-highlighting as the cursor moves over
entities. Maybe someone can help...

Nate.

Thanks, that seems to do it. VTENABLE was set to 3 - not sure what that means - but now set to 0 and back to normal!

Have sorted out the other things - from the options menu.

I notice that MDI is on by default. Should I stick with this or is it better to change to SDI?

Have not tried to do any serious work with 2007 yet! Just playing with it at the moment.

MDI is very nice but, in my opinion, you need to exercise an extra bit of
discipline. It's easy to end the work day with some forgotten, hidden
drawings opened and prompting you for permission to discard changes. If you
don't remember what you might have done earlier in the day on these drawings
(was it just a ZOOM WINDOW or was it something substantial?) then it can
become an anxious decision time.

Good. Much happier with SDI.

Hi John,

You can turn off the fancy effects -If you goto the Tools --> Options--> Selection.

And mark out the 2 items by Selection Preview

Regards,

Gerald
