It sounds like you want the Tag to Start out with the family code and increment? like CR1, CR2
This is setup in the component tagging. Also the family attribute in the block you are inserting should match what you want it to start with ie CR

I'M USING THE SAME SYMBOL FOR TWO COMPONENTS ONE FOR A RELAY AND ONE FOR A CONTACTOR I WOULD LIKE THE RELAY TAGGING TO START WITH RL AND THE CONTACTOR TO START WITH CN. I'M TRYING TO DO THIS IN THE "EDIT CATALOG RECORD (TEXTVALVE)" AREA IN THAT FIELD I CAN EDIT THE DESC1 AND RATING1 ETC. BUT HAVE HAD NO LUCK IN EDITING THE TAG OR TAG1 FIELDS. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU TO HELP ME.

You could try and use the wd_fam.dat to map a different family code to the one you are using
I have not used this but I would assume its just a text file you would create in the projects folder called wd_fam.dat and the line would be something like
CR=RL

JeffatICS brings up a very nice and little known feature in ACE, but
unfortunately I do not believe it will solve your particular problem because
you are trying to use the same symbol but want two different tagging
assignments, RL and CN. Using the wd_fam.dat method mention would allow you
to change all the CR's to only one of the options you are looking for.
Also, I do not believe the the textvals field will work for you, as you have
found out. The textvals field is meant to place text into the attributes
when you select the catalog data, which means the symbol has already been
place and the component tag assigned, so you would continue to get the value
of RL%N.
I think that you will have to create two symbols here in order to be
able to insert them and have them automatically tag with an RL and CN
respectively. All you will need to do is insert the symbol (possibly
horizontal and vertical), explode it, edit the TAG1 default value to be RL
(or CN), and then use Black Box Builder to wblock it back out. You may need
to repeat this step if you are planning to use CR, CN and RL. If not, you
can use JeffatICS's suggestion for the wd_fam.dat to change the CR to either
the CN or RL (whichever you didn't enter into the block) rather than
creating another additional symbol.

I hope this helps!!

Thanks!
