Rethink Annotative Text!!

Why can't Annotative Text behave like Civil3D Labels.

They could have a style, a defined PS height and all they would require would be a regen or regenall to display correctly.

I as a designer could place each type of text on a different layer that are either VPFrozen of Shown... TEXT-GENERAL, TEXT-DETAIL, ... etc. I often already have text on multiple layers TEXT-STORM, TEXT-SANITARY... etc.

Just my two cents.!

I imagine they very well CAN behave that way...and that would be GREAT.

I guess they don't because, well, who knows. I think there should be a
little bit of a marriage between the two. I love the way Civil 3D blocks,
labels etc. auto-scale with the viewport. But you can't choose which
annotation scale if you want to override the text heights on a per viewport
basis. AutoCAD annotation can do this.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the AutoCAD gang to get up to speed
with this.

Maybe Manchester can add the annotative scale thing though.

I never knew that. That partially explains the disconnect between Civil 3D
and AutoCAD.

It seems to me as though Civil 3D is developed like a 3rd part add-on.

DCA -> Softdesk -> LDT -> Civil 3D
Henniker, NH -> Manchester, NH

Only 32 miles apart.

I like parts of both............neither perfect all the time.

Annotative text: Too much effort (relative to Civil3D labels)

Civil 3D labels: Not enough options for multiple scales (location, leaders,
etc.)

At this point, I'm reasonably happy with both and cannot imagine how I would
marry the two, but hopefully someone will figure out a nice way of doing so.

I agree, I would like to see Autodesk to make annotative text styles behave like Civil 3D Labels. Just a few notes:

Wishes for AutoCAD Annotation
1. Ability to have annotation dynamic. Currently the model space annotation scale is only used when creating annotations using MTEXT or TEXT. Once the annotation is created, changing the model space annotation scale has no impact on existing annotation. In other words, only used at creation time. This is very different from Civil 3D labels where I can change the model space annotation scale and the labels text height will change.
2. Annotation Text Style support multiple scales. Currently at the object level I can assign one or more annotation scales to existing annotation created with MTEXT or TEXT command. I would like to change this at a more global level, that is the text style instead of having to edit each individual object. You can tell an annotation object has multiple paper text heights because it has that double vision effect.

Wishes for Civil 3D Labels
1. I would like the option to have Civil 3D labels use the paper text height in an annotative text style. Currently Civil 3D labels ignores the paper text height in the annotative text style. I can easily change the text font for a text style being used by a Civil 3D label and it dynamically updates all those labels. The same cannot be said with the paper text height, I need to use the Settings Toolspace instead.

Thanks,

I would just like the Civil 3D styles, when contained in an xref, to display correctly when you change the annotative scale of a drawing in model space....  how stupid is that, you change the annotative scale and everything changes except the civil 3d stuff contained within an xref.

Civil 3d is like a Ford F150 hacked onto a Chevy Silverado 1500 Chassis.
