{Profile Elevation}

Please, for the love of God, expose this everywhere.

Toolspace Settings Tab
Profile>Label Styles>Station>Horizontal Geometry Point... create an
expression that does ANYTHING with {Profile Elevation}. Very nice.

Open the same expression under Profile>Labels Styles>Line and you'll get an
error message (undefined property) - because a {Profile Elevation}
apparently doesn't exist - I guess - along a tangent...hmmmm....that's
odd... then why does the contractor always seem to need it....

The bottom line is, you can't build a road without knowing the finished
ground elevation of any point along said roadway profile - whether that
point exists along a tangent, or a vertical curve - and it shouldn't matter
how or where I pick it in a profile view - and I ought to be able to use my
object snaps (any of them) to select it, and I ought to be able to build an
expression using {Profile Elevation} anywhere... For the love of God, I've
been begging so hard for so long - LET ME LABEL THE FG ELEVATION OF ANY
POINT ALONG A PROFILE - Out of the box. Land Desktop can (oooo - there's a
dig).

About once a year I get on a soap box... WHEW! I feel better...

Thanks for listening, I really do love you!

OK- I am having some problems between the seat and the keyboard.

Why does it have to be in the line/arc labeling? Is it because you want to
automate it/build it in?

That would make sense.

The only part I can't seem to tackle is the batch part.

I mean, I am totally seeing the problem now. Reference text isn't even a
choice in the major and minor station label composer- which would be another
way we could get equal interval elevations on our alignment....

Even if there was just a labeling option kinda like the "Points from Surface
Along Polyline" thing for station/offset labels or something....

thinking more...

I got it, dude. It isn't completely silky smooth, but it ain't bad at all.
You might already be doing this, but worth posting anyway.

Let me tell you... I was in bed at midnight. Five minutes later, I sat up
straight and couldn't rest until I got this out. I need some help, dude.

Nice solution, Dana!

Now, based on this label and setting the text to be 90 degrees with a line
drawn from side to side, with all anchors set to the , why is the
label offset to the edge of the symbol? Now, drag the text for one of these
labels to a point away from the label point, a leader should be added. Note
that the leader starts as it should but the text/line portion of the label
is offset from the leader the same amount as it was from the symbol. Did I
mess up a setting or is this normal precedure?

Oh, and I do the same thing if I awake with an idea that just won't let me
rest. 🙂 Drives my wife nuts......maybe that's why she continues to work
the graveyard shift.

After some more fooling around with this, I got it to work properly. The key
was that both the text and line anchor points need to be Middle Center.

Thanks again,
Jeff
