Hold settings when explode C3D object or label

I have all settings in my styles to 'ByLayer'.  So when I explode something, why is it not set to 'ByLayer'?

For example, many of my labels are set to a certain layer in their style.  The layer is green.  The colour of the labels is set 'ByLayer', however when I explode them, the Mtext is colour 'green'.  Why is it not ByLayer?

Also, we have a masking setting for Mtext, and a masking setting for C3D labels.  Why are they different?  If I explode a C3D label with a masking, currently I get Mtext plus a hatch that is colour 0,0,0 (or whatever my background colour is set to).  Why can't I just get Mtext with a background mask?  (Quick workaround: select all those hatches and change the colour to 255,255,255 for plotting.)
