Changing Spot Elevation Surface Reference

Wish list item?

How can I change the reference surface for a spot elevation label? I have
a bunch of spot labels referencing surface "FG" and now I want them to
read the elevations from "FG-2". I see in Label Properties the "Anchor
Feature" item but it is grayed out and cannot be changed. I shouldn't
have to go back and reinsert each label. I tried renaming surface "FG" to
"FG-Old" then renaming "FG-2" to "FG" but that didn't work.

Copy FG to FG-OLD, rebuild FG with the current design.......

Looking at the API to try to write a workaround, the LabledObject (i.e. the
Surface) is a ReadOnly item and is referenced by it's ObjectID:

LabeledObject (RO) = 2130625784

To verify this (using lisp because I can do it at the command line):
(setq obj (vla-objectidtoobject *doc* lblobj))

David,

If you use the general note with reference text, you can create a spot elevation label. Then if you want to change surfaces, select all your labels and change the referenced surface in the properties window. This is how I have my style setup.

Holy Moly! How do you figure these things out? I would have never
thought to do this since there are Surface elevation labels specifically
for this task.

OK, thanks a lot Tom. Works for me. I will have to recreate my elevation
label styles, but no big deal.

Ahhhh... wait a second. You can't apply "Expressions" to General Notes.
So my top of curb / flow line label will not work. My label extracts the
surface elevation for the flow line label and adds 0.5 for the top of curb
label. We callout both TC and FL for each point on our plans.

So back to my original post / wish. Can the Anchor feature item be made
editable in the next C3D version please?

if you build the expression in the surface label area, then reference the
surface with your general note, your expression will be a choice.

Dana

I was wondering if you can explain in more detail the steps required to have the expressions as a choice under general note.
I created a style under General > Multipurpose...> Label Styles> Note
But there are no expressions available.

Thanks for your time.

your expression is created under the type of entity that is driving the
expression. then, when you reference that object, you will get your
expression as a choice.

for example, i make an expression under surfaces.

then i make reference text in my general note label.

my expression will be a choice.

a post that might help
