SSA - Upwelling Flows through Inlets

I see from the model output that SSA is using rating curves to model inlet interception. I'm sure those rating curves account for typical velocity and trajectory effects for on-grade inlets, therefore limiting capacity, and would be different than straight orifice and weir equation flowrates.

 

What method is SSA using to model the upwelling flows of a surcharging inlet that go up and out the inlet on to the surface? Please see picture below:
