Hi
I have been surfing the net looking for some data on the preformance of style of inlet grates we use in New Zealand. They are typically combination inlets with grates that have bars perpendicular to the flow as per the attached picture (uyou use to be able to get ones with bars parallel to the flow).
From what I have read these are about the less efficient inlet you can choice to use.
I doubt the manufactures in New Zealand would have any actual test data so if you have seen data on testing of grates of a similar configuration and if so could send me a link to the data that would be great.
Hi Justin:
Am somewhat curious about your perpendicular and parallel to flow. Doesn't the flow run down the gutter?
On to your question. Neenah Foundry here in the states is probably the largest manufactory here. They have avaliable several Engineering calculations, I think.
Have a nice day.
Bill
Justin -
Have you reached out to the manufactureres? Some will occassionally publish weir perimeter, and open area for different grates types.
Guys
Thanks for the suggestions I made contact with one of the suppliers who was able to supply some more theoritical data developed for the inlet curves loaded into 12D an alternative civil design packaged used in NZ and Australia. They also confirmed that no testing they know of has been done in New Zealand.
For others who come looking for this information I have attached a zip file with what I was given and some old hand calculations I did a few years ago.
