Getting Peak Flow into Civil3d

Hi

 

I am wanting to get the peak flow back into Civil3d to add to our longsections, I assume the Peak Flow in SSA is the Flow rate property for the pipe in Civil3d, the HGL stuff seems to come in ok. I am just doing a basic rational anaylsis in SSA is there a trick to getting the data?

Having read the help files in more detail here

it reads that the flow rate is populated by stormsewers and SSA is not mentioned hence I assume that is why no value comes into Civil3d from an .stm file from SSA.

 

I guess it time to write more .net code to  plug the hole and search the output file from SSA and update the flowrate field for each pipe in the drawing to add it to the long section.

Just watch the round-trip - flow rate is not a result, but an input.

Can you clarify where it is populated from in Civil?

Does it come from the catchment object?

Civil 3D provides "Known Flow" at structures.  This imports into Hydraflow as a Known Q.  This also imports into SSA as an External Inflow.

 

For pipes, the Flow Value for Hydraflow is "Known Capacity" ~ is, well, uhm... "extra" value that isnt used in either calculation program.

 

The resulting flow could be back-calculated using the EGL and HGL values + pipe geometry.

Thanks for the explaination

 

Having looked into it last night problably best if I steer clean of the defaults and just add some optional parameters to our pipe Catoglue as Kevin explains here for say "Required Capacity from SSA" and "Calculated Peak Flow from SSA" and then update there values to values from the SSA output file with some code similar to what Parka explains here.

 

I could maybe back calculate the flow with an expression but I would have to hit the textbooks and we may end up with a different answer in Civil3d compared to SSA and have to justify the difference.

EGL is the velocity head (v^2/ 2g)

HGL is elevation of the water.

 

Q = V * A

 

The rest is geometry!

 

You could export out of SSA the GIS data, and use the GIS import to build the network and assign the parts.
