Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis (former StormNET) is now available!

Civil 3D and Map 3D subscription customers in North America can now download
Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis Stand-Alone.

Looking forward to using this group to talk about the product and your
projects!

head over to www.autodesk.com/subscription to download the extension!

If you aren't sure if you are on subscription, ask your CAD manager or
Autodesk reseller.

The Autodesk® Storm and Sanitary Analysis Stand-Alone 2011 Extension is a
comprehensive, hydrodynamic hydrology and hydraulic analysis application for
planning and designing urban drainage systems, storm sewers including
highway drainage systems, and sanitary sewers.

With this extension, engineers and planners using AutoCAD® Civil 3D® and/or
AutoCAD® Map 3D software can analyze both simple and complex networks
including:
? Inlets and catch basins
? Detention ponds and outlet structures
? Interconnected ponds
? Flow dividers, standpipes, weirs, and orifices
? Pumps and lift stations
? Manholes and junctions
? Rivers, streams, and ditches
? Culverts and bridges

Some of the key features and benefits of the Autodesk Storm and Sanitary
Analysis Stand-Alone Extension are:
? Bi-directional exchange of data with AutoCAD Map 3D and AutoCAD Civil 3D
? No limitation on the number of pipes or elements you can include in your
model
? Widely-accepted SWMM analysis engine
? Broad range of hydrologic methods
? Stormwater BMPs
? Detention pond design
? Stormwater quality modeling
? Customizable report generation for regulatory review
? GIS interoperability
? Work in either US or Metric (SI) units

I would suggest that if you could try the following steps to overcome the problem you mentioned.

  1. Uninstall SSA Stand-Alone.
  2. Delete the Application folder (C:\Program Files\Autodesk\SSA Stand-Alone 2011 or where you installed SSA), if exists after uninstall.
  3. Delete the folder “%ALL_USERS%\Application Data\Autodesk\SSA Stand-Alone 2011
  4. Reinstall SSA Stand-Alone.

RE: web cast of 19-Aug-10

Hello Dana,

In Western Washington engineers are reluctant to use SAA because there are three programs actively used, KCRTS, KCBW and WWHM3. KCRTS is a required program in King County it is the largest population county in Washington. This program is an old program developed in 1992. It is the King County Runoff Time Series (KCRTS), which is a variant of the Hydrologic simulation Program – FORTRAN (HSPF) model. Unfortunately one of the issues with the KCRTS program is that it uses ten year modified rain fall data in 15 minute and one hour time series.

The next program required by King County is the KCBW King County backwater analysis model for performing standard step hydraulic analyses.

The third program of high priority in Western Washington is the WWHM3 program, developed for Washington State DOT. The WWHM3 uses HSPF (Hydrological Simulation Program Fortran) as its computation engine.

Due to the steady type of rain fall in the Western Washington  the HSPF continuous simulation model is preferred over single-event hydrology models because of its ability to compute and keep track of all of the individual components of the hydrologic cycle including surface runoff, interflow, groundwater, soil moisture, and evapotranspiration.

If these three programs can be addressed in SSA then you would expand your client base by several thousand engineers in this region. If you need any further information let me know and I’ll be of assistance.

I was the one who asked the question regarding the stage-storage pond question in your 19-August webcast. The question is for me to use the stage-storage pond extension then I have to go back to 2010 civil 3d version to run the extension then bring that information forward into 2011. It simply does not work in the Civil 3d version.

Bill -

Can you contact me off the Discussion Group to discuss your Stage-Storage issue?  first dot last at Autodesk dot com.

Typically, your best bet when you have a problem that causes you to drop back a version, it is best to open a Support Request with the steps that describe your error.

We are currently in the process of evaluating SSA vs. SewerCAD.  I am new to sewer modeling other than what we used to do with Eaglepoint Sanitary Sewers modeling.  Can anyone provide me with reasons to choose one over the other?  Can SSA do everything SewerCAD can? or the other way around?  We are going to be modeling a system with around 2000 pipe segements 10-15 pump stations.  Thanks in advance for any input.

Kendall -

Two questions:  Do you own SewerCAD? Are you on Autodesk Subscription?

SSA provides both Storm and Sanitary modeling.  If you next project is a storm sewer network, with SSA, you already have the program analysis package.  With SewerCAD, you need to purchase a different program with a different interface, with different licensing, and different data requirements.

SewerCAD is more a steady state modelling solution. I assume the EaglePoint modeling is similar to steady state analysis.  I think you would need SewerGEMS if you have more wet weather / combined sewers to model.

SSA is fully hydrodynamic - which is more like SewerGEMS and CivilStorm together.

Hopefully that gets you started.

I do not own SewerCAD and we are on subscription.  I have allready downloaded and have just messed around with the sample files a bit.

Does steady state provide any advantages over fully hydrodynamic?

Message 50 of 69

SSA is included in your Civil 3d subscription.   You will be able to use Civil 3d pipe networks to layout your sewer system and import it into SSA.

Steady State is simplistic routing.

Are you designing new or analyzing existing?

I would like do both.  For the project I mentioned previously we will basically be doing analysis.  But following the analysis we will be designing new and verifying that the new meets current state regulations. (310 gpd/home, etc.).

hard luck steve, not sure what you did but looks like a text entry instead of number, though i could be completely wrong.

Anyway been finally using SSA since it's release over here. Great potential but again poor implementation;

Hi Dana,

the Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis is a step into the right direction

and closes a big gap in Civil 3D's pipe networks.

However there seems to be a problem when exporting pipe data

via LandXML back to Civil 3D.

The LandXML file does not contain any design data, such as flow or velocity.

Is there a workaround or additional settings in SSA 2011?

Here is a snippet of one of my LandXML files.

- <Pipes>
- <Pipe name="P7 (sewer)" refEnd="S8 (sewer)" refStart="S7 (sewer)" desc="uPVC Class 34" length="68.662">
  <CircPipe diameter="0.11" mannings="0.013" />
  <PipeFlow flowIn="0" />
  </Pipe>
- <Pipe name="P2 (sewer)" refEnd="S3 (sewer)" refStart="S2 (sewer)" desc="uPVC Class 34" length="76.154">
  <CircPipe diameter="0.11" mannings="0.013" />
  <PipeFlow flowIn="0" />
  </Pipe>
- <Pipe name="P6 (sewer)" refEnd="S7 (sewer)" refStart="S6 (sewer)" desc="uPVC Class 34" length="79.18">
  <CircPipe diameter="0.11" mannings="0.013" />
  <PipeFlow flowIn="0" />
  </Pipe>
- <Pipe name="P1 (sewer)" refEnd="S2 (sewer)" refStart="S1 (sewer)" desc="uPVC Class 34" length="75.707">
  <CircPipe diameter="0.11" mannings="0.013" />
  <PipeFlow flowIn="0" />
  </Pipe>
- <Pipe name="P5 (sewer)" refEnd="S6 (sewer)" refStart="S5 (sewer)" desc="uPVC Class 34" length="61.822">
  <CircPipe diameter="0.11" mannings="0.013" />
  <PipeFlow flowIn="0" />
  </Pipe>
- <Pipe name="P4 (sewer)" refEnd="S5 (sewer)" refStart="S4 (sewer)" desc="uPVC Class 34" length="65.094">
  <CircPipe diameter="0.11" mannings="0.013" />

Thanks for the reply...Yeah...I knew that but it was not showing up.  We have determined that somehow our subscription got screwed up when we did some contract modifications before the end of the year.  Hopefully this gets resolved soon.
