The blue line is my featureline.
Currently we have the command to "Flatten" to a constant grade (for either the whole length or a portion of the featureline).
I propose an addtional command, which will set the grades of all intermediate PIs based on a theoretical straight line grade. It will be similarly available for either the whole length or a portion of the featureline.
Many times, in grading around buildings, ponds, curbs, sidewalks I would like to be able to "flatten" my grade, but I when the featureline turns perpendicular to the flow (e.g. nosing of a traffic island) the grade should really go to zero for that segment. My proposed new command is a solution to this issue.
A theoretical line (shown in yellow) is drawn from the selected start and end points of the "straight grade". The elevations of all intermediate PIs are set by the elevation of the theoretical yellow line. (I drew perpendicular projection lines in red to show where each PI would get its elevation from.)
Note that two of the PIs are beyond the end of the yellow line. For these, the grade can be extended, and the elevation applied to them. So if the west end of the featureline is at elevation 100, and the east end is an elevation of 50, those two PIs will be below 50.
