When selecting complex polyline - Civ 3D slows to a crawl

Sometimes when I select a polyline with many vertices (extracted contour line) Civil 3D 2011 almost stops working. I have tried locking the layer, but this still slow to a crawl.

Make sure the Properties and Quick Properties palettes are turned off before selecting the line, and you should be able to select the polyline without the delay.

I have the same type of EG contours made from some LiDar data. Large surface areas made from these contours are performance killers. Even after doing a mapclean to clear out some vertices.

I was wondering if anyone knows of an AutoLisp that would extract the vertices of contours into a coordinate points within a spreadsheet?????

Although I would lose surface accuracy,  I would then make the EG surfaces using the much more efficient "Point Cloud" method for drafting purposes.

I need speed!

Someone must know this one!
