What is the most efficient way to share civil3d data with subconsultants

The topic says it all.  On large projects comprised of numerous plans, profiles, alignments, surfaces, etc..... what is the best way to share all of this data as one complete package to others?

Won't all the data shortcuts and xref's be disconnected and require a fair amount of work for the end user to recreate?

How will that work when the project has over 100 drawing files?

How much sharing are we talking about?  Do you want to allow someone to remote in to your network and access your files?

For x-refs, if you set them up with a relative path or no path, and the drawings are all in one folder, so long as they are kept in the same folder as each other they will still work.  d-refs are another matter.  We generally don't send out data, so we copy the drawing, promote all, export to acad.  If you want to share active data, an option that might work is to send out your drawings as is, and the end user has to use the data shortcuts manager to replace the path for the shortcuts.  I guess you'd have to send the shortcuts folder too.  I've never tried this, don't know how it works.

Maybe sharing wasn't the correct term, we need to supply all of our data to 'others' but don't want to send them a useless jumbled up mess of data. Our files are setup to work on our sever with our directory structure.

If you have saved xref path's in the files and don't use Etransmit the paths can be edited globally using the external AutoDesk Reference Manager, then as long as the recipient places the files all in same folder they will be found relative path.

Start>All Programs>AutoDesk>C3D XX>Reference Manager.

Hello Mike,

Assuming you use Sheet Set Manager, you can use eTransmit from there. This will automatically bundle all files that are required to create all of your sheets.

Depending on who the recipient is, you might need to use a file format like AutoCAD 2013 File Format with Exploded AEC Objects. Check your transmittal setup.

No, if you send Civil 3D Dependencies (Files Tree tab), you won't lose connectivity to data shortcuts/references.

Use e-transmit as suggested. Just set it up the way you want. Here are a couple option you might want to explore:

As for adding multiple drawing, run the command while in one drawing and then add additional drawings to it.

Publish a DWFx of the whole set. Self contained like a PDF but with half the fat. Also, no worries about presentation aspects, lost data references, just one clean set. And, they don't need autocad to open it.

Yeah, had enough "DWG" as a requirement. DWF can be an underlay, has layers like a DWG and geometry can be dimensioned, snapped to, etc....

When you use the word "data" are you talking about just the Civil3d model information, or are you intending to include the ACad linework, labels etc.  If I just wanted to send the C3d data then I would export an xml dump of everything in the baseplan and design drawings.
