I am seeing the wrong flash screen when C3D starts up.
I see the one with several robot supported movie screens, same one as "C3D as Acad" OOTB icon gives.
I created my profile by starting full C3D, then copying the profile to another name.
I copy the full C3D icon from the start menu of windows, and modify the /p to my profile name.
I modify the menus so my main is custom.cui, and enterprise is C3D Tools, which has C3D menu as partial load.
I've done it this way for years, its not some hack approach.
Yet I get the wrong splash screen. Any ideas?

forgot to mention, this is C3D 2012 on win 7 64 bit.

I narrowed it down to how my icon specifies the profile.
if i give a full path to the arg, even if the profile exists, it thinks i am starting "as autocad".
If just profile name, C3D.
That is not proper behavior, in case anyone at Autodesk is watching.

When you say, "full path to the arg" ... if you're talking about the profile, isn't the argument just supposed to be the name of the profile that AutoCAD looks up in the registry? It's not supposed to be a file path as far as I understand it.
It is not an incorrect thing to do, not sure where its documented though.
We have done this since 2002.
When you specify a full path, acad looks to see if a profile by same name as the arg exists.
If yes, it uses it (does not import and overwrite it with arg).
If no, it creates a new profile from it.
Now, knowing that, you can see why most of the options in the admin image creation process are redundant.
Set up OOTB installs, and pull in the profiles by giving users icons that point to company profiles.
I also made our icons have different a look than adesks.

You're right, online help (for C3D 2011 at least) states that flag does take a path to the arg file or a profile name. I'd suggest opening a support case.
but subscription support says to also check on the DG's for help 🙂
Can you pass this on to whoever it makes sense to? Being on the inside, I bet you know exactly the right person.
thx

Hi,
If you have an open support case, rest assured you are in good hands!
Actually, its not often the sub support people are able to help me solve things. Not really their fault, I ask somewhat obscure questions because I usually try hard to solve things first. They are very good about escalating things, though, to people that are probably needed for many other tasks, so you do get value for the money.
Either way, the more Autodesk people hang out here, the better!

Was anybody able to figure out anything on this issue, I've done this for several years to the shortcuts to load the *.arg, and I am having the same problem.
James,
The ARG file is an export of the settings that are stored in the registry. These are designed to be exported and imported and the call in the icon tells which one to use. This is a change from the using ARG files stored on disk. I'm not sure if pathing to the arg file is designed to load it and set it current.
A search of my machine shows no ARG files for either 2011 or 2012

Creating an ARG file is very similar to doing an Export from the registry. The ARG files looks almost exactly like an REG file. Exporting an ARG file is more advantageous because it contains more than just what is in the Profile stored in the registry.
I consider the ARG file to only be back-up in case the profile is erased or corrupted.
It might help if in the future Civl3D could recreate the 2 basic profiles. I will admit, while I had backups of the customized profiles, I never had backups of the originals until yesterday.

Sometimes the profile just gets messed up for various reasons. Try these...
If not,
If not,
Now, there may be a setting or something within the ARG (registry) that you can change, but Ii've not heard of such a thing.
The word that I received is that this is no longer possible.
I personally have been pointing to .arg files on a network locations for years. It requires zero intervention from support staff to give a user the correct "profile" for pathing various software setups and pathing. Having to manually import these is personally a waste of time. My users know what the network location of these shortcuts and they can grab them at any time and know that they are getting the correct setup.
My entire CAD setup pulls from a share. All custom items I have are pushed through enterprise menu's.
Supporting with this type of setup is so easy.
Now I have lost one of my favorite tools.

This has always worked for me, for the past 5 releases. But it dosent any more, What I'm I doing wrong?
civil3d2011-works, civil3d2012-dosent work
Support told me that it is not working as it did in previous versions.
Their suggestion is to send in a comment of this at.

So it doesn't work...what a bummer.
no, I'll go ahead and do a sub support request.

As some of you may know, it doesn't take much to get me confused. So if I have a current profile that I am using and export this Arg file, I can at some future date, import this rascal back in to repair my profile?
