VP Freeze Not Working AutoCAD 2015

Hi,

I am attempting to turn off visibility for objects on a particular layer in an AutoCAD 2015 drawing.

(I have also tried creating a new drawing with the same result.)

Objects are created on various layers in model space. While working in a viewport, I use the layer property manager and select VP Freeze for the layer on which I want objects hidden. This command does nothing.

I have worked with this feature before... I can't understand why it is not working now. It doesn't work on a new drawing, or on the drawing that I originally had problems with.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,

What does an AUDIT reveal? Can you post a drawing with the problem?

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the reply. (You're up either very late or very early!)

Audit revealed no errors with the original drawing.

I started a new drawing with just a couple of entities... just to see if it behaved the same.

Here is what I did:

- Create new drawing using acad.dwt

- In model space, create two new layers

- Draw a circle on one layer and a squre on the other

- Open a paperspace viewport (making sure I am in paper space)

- Attempt to turn off the object on one layer using either the layer dropdown or the layer property manager and selecting VP Freeze

At this point nothing happens to the displayed object on the selected layer.

If I freeze New Viewport Freeze in the layer property manager and then create a new viewport, the object on that layer are hidden in the new viewport. I cannot, however, turn them back on. Freeze or Thaw in current viewport do nothing to make the objects reappear.

I don't think there is anything special about the simple drawing that I am working with; but, I have attached it anyway.

Any thoughts?

Thanks again.

Hi Dave,

I feel pretty foolish at the moment....

Because I was in a paperspace viewport, I was trying to turn off layers while in paperspace.

Working in model space in a viewport allowed me to turn off the layers I wanted in that viewport only.

Sorry for the confusion.

Take Care,

Jeff

Jeff,

I opened your drawing and went through the steps you described. In each layout, in model space, I could thaw the layers, which then would apply to, and change, the layers in paper space.

Good, I see you figured it out.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the help.

Not sure why I thought that I needed to be in paperspace when freezing (or thawing) the layers in a particular viewport. Anyway, all is good now.

Have a great morning.

Hi Jeff,

I used to have the same issue as you do. then I realized you could have more than ONE new viewports, which means you need to let the program know which New Viewport you are looking in.

thus, the order should be :

VPLAYER

freeze

"name of the layer"

Select

Selecte the view port as you what the layer to be invisible.

Newfrz

enter, enter.

Done, I had test it, works both in 2015 to 2017 versions.
