Volumes between surfaces within a boundary

Volumes between surfaces within a boundary

I have been trying to get the volume between two surfaces (say OG and FG of a pad) within a boundary area. Using the surface volume utilities, I can get the entire volume between both surfaces, but can't see where to add a boundary. I am not sure what the "bounded volumes" does (even after reading the help file), but it doesn't seem to work for me. Bounded volumes only asks for 1 surface and a boundary. What is the volume that it is comparing to?



Anyway, right now I have just been adding the boundary to my OG and FG as an outer boundary, comparing the volumes, then removing the boundary from both surfaces and moving on to the next area where I need a "bounded" volume. Surely there is a better way?

Create a TIN volume surface from your top and
bottom surfaces. 

 

For each comparison area create a "parcel",
yes an actual parcel, generally I make a polyline and choose "Create Parcel from
Object".   For this I usually create a site called "Volume", and put
these parcels into that Site.

 

Then from prospector goto Toolbox, Parcel, Parcel
Volume Report and do a Volume report for each of the Parcels.  If any
surface changes, just go back and recreate the reports.
