Viewport creating polylines

Why is it when you create a viewport, it creates a polyline as well? If you put the viewport on a non plotting layer, it still appears because the polyline is on a plotting layer. If you try to delete the polyline, it deletes the viewport as well. I'm confused why it is neccessary to create a polyline when creating a viewport, and if there is any way arond this besides changing both the viewport and the polyline to a non-plotting layer.

The Polyline represents the Clipping.

If you wish to have a rectangular viewport which has no polyline then use the MVIEW command and

specify the corners. (Using this method should not generate any polyline.)

The polyline is generated when using the VPCLIP command or a viewport is created using the MVIEW "object", polygonal" etc. options.

It's the way viewports have always been AFAIK.

In addition to Jay's comments, just make sure to place the polyline on the same, nonplotting, layer as the Viewport.
