Transparent Command - Z Only

I've reviewed the Transparent Command section in Help. There doesn't seem to be any that will just extract an elevation form a Surface. I want a distance from 2 points in 3D. Point A I can pick. Point B would be the X,Y of an intersection and the Z from the surface elevation. I could use the AutoCAD X,Y point filter. But I don't see anyway of getting the Surface elevation at that point without using the Inquiry Tool and then Copying and Pasting the elevation. Laborious for more than one or 2 points.

I could also set Points at each spot at the surface elevation. But, again, that seems like a lot of work. Does anyone know the method I should be using?

Wouldn't a feature line do the same thing?

And just let it read the surface elevation

Yes. But in this case it would lay one Featureline over another. That makes it difficult to pick the elevation from just one.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't have C3D on this computer so I'm just thinking out loud, isn't there an inquiry tool for slope between two points? Would that get you what you want? I believe it will give you the distance between the two points.

Or perhaps a slope label with an expression to give the true distance between the two points. In both cases, it would be the distance from surface to surface, not from picked point to surface...

You're correct about the inquiry tool. It will list the slope of and object or you can select the option of Points. However my problem is getting the Z of point B to be an elevation from a Surface. As mentioned, there are a couple of work-around. I've gone with setting points at the X,Y and the Surface elevation. Then I can snap to the point.

I just thought that with all the fancy transparent commands available there might be a simple one for extracting the elevation from a Surface.

Allen:

What about a short Alignment with an EG profile.  Leave the Alignment off to the side and when you want this info, just drag the two ends in place.

Hi Bill,

Yes. That would certainly work. But it still requires crating additional objects in addition to the surface. I've already had this solved by a 3rd party developer. The 'POS transparent command will be included in the next release of Sincpac. I've already tried it out in beta and it does exactly what I want.

Thanks for you reply.
