Total Civil 3d Plan Production

I am curious if any one uses Civil 3d 2008 completely to produce working plans. Please share your opinion.

yes...

For the most part I am still heavily using xrefs as in past with the
exception of trying to get a better understanding of Vault and how we can
improve the process of controlling data specfic and data critical
information amongst the team.

I am basically using it as an over glorified LDD suite at this time and hope
to continue with progress (slow, very slow). The proof in the pudding will
be when I can match my profit margins as in past.

What specifics are you looking for?

We've issued a number of projects using Civil3D exclusively.

We are in the process of converting over, and we currently use a third party application to produce 3-line street profiles. We are looking at how civil 3d produces the profiles for street paving, and I am curious how other companies produce the profiles, and if they like the way it looks.

I can comment on the old method of creating 3 line street profiles using L1,
L2, R1, R2...etc. in the old platform but have not tried it on the new
platform.

Some of the more experienced users with C3D may be able to help you. I
believe the profile module allows you to put in as many design profile
parameters/criteria as necessary. During the Civil Core 3D training there
was an example of just such an example.

All new projects since last March have been in C3D alone from surcey to
stakeout.

Labeling and annotating plans would be much better if we could access civil
3d data in autocad fields.

Yes - I have been kicking out plans since 2006 in it exclusively. Our field crews have been using it for construction layout since last fall.

I've done a few street/sidewalk jobs, having numerous profiles (CL, BC/TC,
back of walk). I'm very happy with that aspect of Civil3D.

One of the greatest things about that type of work with Civil3D (my opinion,
based on my experience with it, of course) is that you can really spend your
time concentrating on design. The plans are an afterthought, and once you
have a reasonable understanding of styles (particularly bands), getting the
look you want is actually fun. (I like drawing.) I'm generally able to get
what I want, graphically, from the labels/styles. I have to make some
conessions, but they've been acceptable to this point.

Our company has been LDT free since May. We have done Subdivision, Road,
Commercial, Survey, big and small successfully. Took a good year of
planning and setup though.
