I have found that Topcon Link will convert from LandXML to .tn3, and can be downloaded from here: https://positioning.topcon.co.jp/en/application/utility/
Thanks for the 2007 format date. That seems to be persistent now in 2016. Exported back to 2004 and the conversion worked like a champ. Cheers.
Topcon has a tool on there site called Topcon CAD enhancement tool, or something like that. It's a plug-in that is used in Civil 3D. I don't think they have it for Civil 2019 yet though. It allows you to export directly to TN3, LN3, or RD3 formats. I usually save the CAD drawing down to a 2004 format, open that CAD file within 3D Office. At this point XML, CSV, GC3 files can be added for control, surfaces, points, and alignments.
Is there a way to do all of the cleaning/design in civil 3D then just export the whole package as a .tp3 file (which houses all the tn3, rd3, pt3, gc3, etc. now).
For example, I get Civil 3D 2018 dwgs, and XMLs from the engineers. This contains all the data I need for the data collectors and machine control. Can I clean out everything in Civil 3D, make minor edits to the surfaces and export that all out as a tp3? Or do I have to use some program like MAGNET Office to do an intermediate cleaning. I have heard of a add-on to civil 3D called 3D exchange for CAD that can do it. Is this the one you are talking about?
Yes, it allows you to export to a TP3 format. I believe when this is done only the control file needs to be added separately. Keep in mind 3D office does not like Civil objects (blocks, ellipses, hatching, feature lines). These objects need to be exploded or burst, so the file will work.
Ok, good to know, I am cleaning the layers right now and then will attempt to merge the surfaces that the engineer has given me and go from there. I will keep you posted on how it turns out. Thanks for the help so far.
I am having trouble getting rid of all the Civil 3D objects, specifically block references. I have taken care of most of them with explode and/or ncopy but some of them just disappear when I explode them or don't copy when using ncopy. I think it might have something to do with the fact that I copied these block references from another DWG and it might not have brought all the data required to break the block reference into it's smaller parts. Do you know any workarounds for this?
