Text selection is delayed until I move cursor out of current window

So I've noticed this in both my Civil 3D 2012 and 2014 editions. Whenever I edit, say, an intelligent label in the text component editor, if the cursor is anywhere in the editor window then whatever I am typing does not show up unless I move the cursor away from the editor window. If I have the cursor outside the editor window then the text appears as I type it.

In addition to this, I've noticed when I want to edit elevations of a feature line that whatever point I select doesn't actually highlight until I move the cursor over to the right side tabs of the Panorama window and then the point's line is highlighted and I can change the elevation or grades.

Here is a screen recording of the elevation editor not working properly. It's almost identical when editing intelligent label texts.

I've already repaired, reinstalled, and unistalled and installed new civil 3D 2014 and am currently reinstalling 2012. This same thing happens on both of them but it doesn't do this to anyone else in the office.
