Ok I have spent several days trying to figure these two problems out. HELP!

#1 How do you get the survey points to import into the drawing on to specific layers...exisiting trees to Pnts-tree layer....water line points to Pnts-water...ect. When I go to the label style composer and set the layer for the specific point group it changes all of the point groups to the same layer. Same thing happends with the Point styles. I have even tried deleting a specific group and recreated it, it does the same thing.

The reason we need to get this to work is that several of our clients want to see specific points groups on the plans, such as existing toc elevations, ditch flowlines...ect. As it stands all the points have to be on, creating an unreadable mess.

Speaking of point styles

#2 Anyway to get the point style onto a specific layer and shut off the survey point information, so the survey info will not appear in the drawing, only the symbol does.

Oh by the way I am not using the survey database, we gave up on that. This all pertains to just importing the csv file into the drawing.

First of all, I am not an expert in this area, but here is my understanding. Description Keys can be used to determine what layers points are placed on, as well as the styles of the point marker and point labels, based upon their raw description in the survey point file. In addition you can use Point Groups to facilitate additional management of points once they are imported. There seems to be several approaches on how to best manage points, so research is a good idea. As far as the styles go, you can setup different point marker and point label styles depending on your needs for given features. See the following User Guide info:

In order to have the layers and styles assigned when you import them, you must set up your point descriptors. Many people leave the point styles on layer 0 so that the symbol will be on the assigned point layer and then assign the label a different layer in the point style while leaving the layer in the label style set to 0. Search for posts by sinc - he has covered this multiple times in great detail in the past.
