Survey - field book file

Hi all,

Is there anybody who knows or have comprehensive description of the field book including description of command language?

I would like to know how it works generally and also know how automatic creating of figures works.

Thank you very much!!

Hi,

The help file in this case is not really adequate because it does not
address the practicalities of working with real survey hardware and programs
written by programmers who have never really studied fieldbook functionality
and certainly never adequately documented what they programmed (with the
exception of Stringer Connect/Reducer where an "About" Icon displays the
codes the program recognises)

In addition you may care to read the numerous posts I've made on this
subject in the autodesk.survey-products NG.

Whereas the FBK itself is somewhat standard, how you get from your field
crew to said fieldbook file really needs to be addressed. What type of
data collection software are you using?

The short rundown is that you use the commands found in the language.ref
file (I think that's the file - I'll have to get back on my laptop to
make sure...) and include those commands when you're collecting your
data. Then, utilizing your descriptors and what's called a figure
prefix library (which you have to create), survey figures are created.

As I said, that's the short rundown, the VERY broad-based overview of
the process. The actual implementation of the process is quite a bit
more involved.

Hi Jason,

Language.ref seems to be the right name. It certainly was is Land Desktop.
The file is quite small, so I've attached a copy of the file contents here.
Read the file
in conjunction with my earlier post and bear in mind that the user can
rename all the commands in this file if they so wish. Only the Line Number
is critical to the software behaviour.
The help files describe the functionality wrt to the first item after the
number in each line.

Thanks for the clarification. Yes, the language.ref file can be
modified, but we've found one huge limitation - you can't put a number
in for a shortcut. Any abbreviation you can conceive of, but no
numbers.

While I agree that the Autodesk Help file is limited in how to use Third-Party software & hardware to survey.

But the original question was about a reference of fieldbook commands available and the documentation. The help file and the Land Desktop file you and Jason noted are the only reference that I know of that outlined the survey functionality of the Autodesk software.
