Survey data & shp format (Murph)

Sounds as if you import extra information this way, sounds interesting to me ... I'm not familiar with the shp format and the way you link it in map/C3d. Can you shed some light on it? How is your workflow, what is envolved and what are you using the extra information for?

First you need to understand there is a different on surveying/GPSing points for a mapping system and a survey for civil design. Most mapping grade gps units allow you to input extra data in to the units when in the field. Say you are doing a electric power line and gpsing all the poles. You can record the pole size, birth date, number of contuctors on the pole and if the pole also has cable tv or telephone wires on it. Now when you include all that data in the dwg as object data or in the database of the SHP file you can run a query for example to show all pole over 10 years old or what poles also have cable on to make sure the cable co. is following the attachment rules.

Mapimport or data connect (FDO) is how you "link" that data to the dwg.

If you need to import point based SHP files directly into AECC_POINTS or export points back to a SHP file, that is included in the MapWorks Points module.  Direct read/write, no hoops to jump through.
