Survey - 2-point observations

In Survey, Is C3D able to use 2-point feature codes?
My main use would be for GATE, which would have 2 observations. At present C3D only seems to use single-point blocks, (and very nice the 3D MV jobbies are), but there could be many uses for multi-point blocks, like Gulleys, and Manholes. I hate to harp on about older software, but SDR Map could do all these things, donkey's years ago !!

Hi Alan,

The Autodesk Point code consists of a series of space separated parameters -
0 through to 9.

The first item - Parameter 0 is seen as the point code for purposes of
working with the Description Keys process for assigning layer and Point
Style (inclusive of any inserted blocks). Also for assigning layers to
Figures via the Fig-Pref process.

The other parameters can be used as intelligent features to apply things
like rotation and scaling or extra descriptive material to suit the user's
needs. Since parameters are order dependent, you would create problems with
the system by allowing the user to dual code and this would destroy a level
of power that other systems may not have. So it is a matter of habit and
different conventions. If you can devise a methodology that allows

Pit1 Pipe1 900 600 300 to be interpreted identically to
Pit1 900 600
and
Pipe1 300

when the values are space separated the I'm sure Autodesk would listen.

Assigning one description per point will require that two points are created
to assign two descriptions. I wonder if this is such a bad thing. Does it
actually take more keystrokes on the data recorder to create two shots at a
point with two descriptions?

Separate Points also enable the Point Group process to work.

If you need the extra data for stringing purposes, programs like Stringer
allow this and you could code:
F1 F2 F3
to have three strings meet at a point, but the primary point description
would be F1, with the other values being merely parameters.
