Surface / Contour conversion to meters

Greetings,

I have contour maps in feet. I need to create a surface in meters. Does anyone know a slick way of doing this?

What I have thought of so far is to lower each contour line to its calculated elevation in meters, and then create a surface from those contours.

Is there perchance an easier way?

You can build the surface from contours in feet, then export to landXML and re-import into a new drawing that has units set to meters.

On another thread I read somebody's solution to simply import the drawing in feet into a new drawing and scale it to meters in all three dimensions. This seems to work. Do you see any objections to this?

If you have the INSUNITS, INSUNITSDEGSOURCE & INSUNITSDEFTARGET system variables set correctly and insert the imperial contour drawing in to a new drawing set to metric. It should scale correctly. The only problem is if the original work was done in US Survey Feet instead of International Feet. Then the scaling has to be done manually with the correct scale.
