Strange pipe endings

I have an extremely long pipe network in a file with two random locations where the pipe endings created something rather strange...see screen shot.  Both pipes have been deleted and recreated multiple times, but each time these two pipes are connected these extra little "bulbs" appear on one side.  Currently using Civil 3D 2012.

The answer in this thread may be yours as well:

Ok...yes that does clear up the strange "crop circles" as they are called in the other thread...but, when unchecking the clean up pipe ends box, the pipes appear to be unconnected at the ends where deflection in alignment occurs.  In other words, at the inside corner of a deflection the ends continue past each other without trimming and at the outside corner the ends never meet.  Is there a fix for that?  - thanks!
